Dnes si připomínáme Den památky obětí invaze v roce 1968 a následné okupace Československa vojsky Varšavské smlouvy. Tento den je věnován vzpomínce na všechny, jejichž životy byly tragicky poznamenány událostmi srpna 1968. Nezapomínáme. 🕊️

🇨🇿❤️ Víte, které město je považováno za „české hlavní město USA“? 🇺🇸

Je jím Wilber v Nebrasce, místo, kde české tradice nežijí jen ve vzpomínkách, ale jsou součástí každodenního života. 🌾🏡 Měli jsme možnost navštívit tradiční Český festival 🎉 a od prvních okamžiků až do jeho závěru jsme cítili obrovskou hrdost na místní česko-americkou komunitu. ❤️🤍💙

S nadšením, energií a opravdovou láskou k odkazu svých předků zde lidé už po generace uchovávají český jazyk, kulturu i tradice. 🇨🇿✨ Právě díky nim zůstává Česká republika přítomná i tisíce kilometrů od svých hranic. 🌍❤️

🤝 Během návštěvy Nebrasky jsme se také setkali s Nebraska Secretary of State Robertem Evnenem, který brzy zamíří do Prahy a Českých Budějovic. ✈️🇨🇿 Těší nás jeho zájem o Českou republiku a její silné vazby s Nebraskou.

💙 Ve Wilberu jsme si znovu připomněli, že domov není jen místo na mapě. 🗺️ Někdy je to i komunita lidí, kteří si své kořeny nesou v srdci. ❤️

🇨🇿🤝🇺🇸 The Czech Republic and Kansas are strengthening their partnership. In Prague, Deputy Foreign Minister Jiří Brodský, Director General of the EU and Foreign Trade Section at the Ministry of Industry and Trade David Müller, and Kansas Lieutenant Governor David Toland signed a cooperation statement focused on trade, innovation, research, and deeper people-to-people ties.

Czech Consulate General in Chicago appreciates the excellent collaboration 🤝 with the Kansas Department of Commerce, led by Lt. Governor D. Tolland over the past few years, which helped pave the way for this agreement, as well as the support of our Honorary Consul in Kansas City Sharon K. Valasek, Embassy of the Czech Republic in Washington, DC and our many colleagues in Prague. 🙏

We now look forward to even closer cooperation between Czechs and Kansans on new projects.

📢Jsme rádi, že 🇨🇿 českým občanům pobývajícím na 🇺🇸 americkém Středozápadě budeme brzy moci nabídnout novou službu. Díky mobilní stanici budeme moci zpracovávat žádosti o vystavení českých 🛂 cestovních pasů i mimo kanceláře Generálního konzulátu, přímo v terénu. Jakmile k nám mobilní stanice doputuje, začneme plánovat první 🛣️ výjezd. Snad se nám to podaří ještě v září. Bližší informace budeme sdílet na našich 🧑‍💻webových stránkách.

250 years of freedom. 🇺🇸

On July 4, 1776, a bold declaration changed the course of history - and its message of liberty, democracy, and self-determination inspired generations far beyond America’s shores.

For Czechs, that inspiration became part of our own story. In 1918, the Czechoslovak Declaration of Independence was drafted here in Washington, D.C., drawing on the American example and the belief that free nations should determine their own future.

Today, Czech Foreign Minister Petr Macinka shares a special message to the American people on this historic anniversary.

🕯️ Den památky obětí komunistického režimu
Dnes si připomínáme všechny, kterým komunistický režim upřel svobodu, důstojnost i život. Před 76 lety byly po vykonstruovaném politickém procesu popraveny osobnosti jako Milada Horáková, Záviš Kalandra, Jan Bouchal a Oldřich Pecl. Tito hrdinové položili za hodnoty demokracie svůj život. Nezapomínáme.🕊️

📚✨ Usually we say thank you once - but this time, three thank-yous are in order! 🙏🇨🇿

👏 A big thank you to Tomáš Foltýn for his fascinating and information-packed presentation on the National Library of the Czech Republic (Národní knihovna ČR)📖, to the Harold Washington Library in Chicago 🏛️ for its outstanding partnership and wonderful tour of its iconic building, and to everyone who joined us for the thoughtful questions 💬 and lively discussion! 🙌

🤩 Among the many interesting facts we learned:

📍 The National Library welcomes nearly 200,000 visitors every year

👑 One of its greatest treasures is the Vyšehrad Codex, an 11th-century manuscript created for the coronation of Vratislaus II, the first King of Bohemia

📜 Its collections include papyri dating from the 2nd to the 8th centuries

⚖️ And yes - the library’s heaviest book weighs an impressive 70 kg (154 lbs)! 📚💪

🎉 Next year, the National Library of the Czech Republic will celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding as a public library and is preparing a remarkable program of events. 🥳

✈️🇨🇿 So, if a trip to Prague wasn’t on your travel list for next year, perhaps it should be! ❤️ Be sure to visit the beautiful Klementinum 🏛️ and other sites connected to the library’s rich history and anniversary celebrations.

🇨🇿✨ Did you know there are Czech traces hidden inside Chicago’s newest landmark?

🏛️ Today, on Juneteenth, the long-awaited Barack Obama Presidential Center finally opened its doors, and we were lucky enough to get a sneak peek a few weeks ago. 👀 Let’s just say… we didn’t want to leave!

📚 Along the way, we stumbled upon some unexpected Czech connections (yes, really!). 🇨🇿

📖 The Power of the Powerless by Václav Havel made an appearance in the President’s reading room (reportedly handpicked by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, along with all the other books on the shelves). 📚✨

🎥 We also spotted a short recording from Hradčany Square in Prague from President Obama’s 2009 visit, 🇨🇿 caught a glimpse of Blaník’s knight ⚔️ through one of the giant “O”s in the Sky Room, and even found a Czech-sounding name on the wall honoring everyone who helped build the center. 🙌
