Friends of Bill Morton

Friends of Bill Morton Bill Morton for 49th Ward Alderman I'd like to see potholes filled, rat abatement, and school truancy decreased.

I'd like to see proactive plans for both public health and public safety. I'd like to see everyone that needs a job, get one. I'd like to see actual community engagement with constituents, ward office hours 7 days a week, hybrid community meetings including in-person AND Zoom for every ward issue on the table. When the 49th Ward office gets a FIOA, Freedom of Information Act request, I'd like to s

ee the 49th Ward office deliver the data fully and transparently. I'd like the ward office door to not be locked all the time. I'd like to see constituents always invited into the ward office enthusiastically, instead of shooed away by ward staff. These are some of the changes that you will see when I become our next 49th Ward Alderman.

Rogers Park is a neighborhood built on people caring about people.

It’s the neighbor who checks in during a heat wave. The small business owner who knows their customers by name. The longtime resident who wants to see the community they love remain affordable and welcoming. The young family looking for a place to put down roots.

These everyday connections are what make Rogers Park special.

Bill Morton believes our neighborhood’s future depends on focusing on the things that matter most:

• Keeping people in their homes and making sure Rogers Park remains a place where people from all walks of life can live.

• Making our streets, parks, and public spaces safer.

• Supporting local businesses and bringing new energy to our commercial corridors.

Good communities don’t happen by accident. They take listening, showing up, and working together.

That’s the kind of Rogers Park we should continue building — a neighborhood where everyone has a voice and everyone has a place.

Bill Morton, candidate for 49th Ward Alderman, issued the following statement in response to another tragic weekend of gun violence across Chicago:

"This weekend’s violence — including the loss of an 18-year-old in Back of the Yards and so many other lives taken or forever changed — is devastating. Each one of these incidents represents a family grieving and a community trying to make sense of preventable loss.

We have to treat this crisis with urgency and seriousness. That means focusing resources on violent crime, improving clearance rates so families see accountability, and strengthening coordination so law enforcement can respond effectively and quickly.

But enforcement alone is not enough. We also need sustained investment in prevention — mental health care, youth engagement, conflict mediation, stable housing, and economic opportunity in neighborhoods that have been left without enough support for too long.

Chicago cannot accept this level of violence as normal. As a candidate for 49th Ward Alderman, I believe we must pursue both safety and opportunity together — because lasting change requires addressing both immediate harm and long-term conditions."

At least 11 people have been shot, three fatally, in gun violence across Chicago so far this weekend.

Bill Morton believes that public safety and neighborhood investment go hand in hand. In response to this weekend's violence in Chicago, he shared the following statement:

"Reading this is heartbreaking. Every life lost to gun violence is a family and a community changed forever. We need a city that treats public safety as both an urgent responsibility and a long-term commitment.

That means stronger policing focused on violent crime, faster investigations, and better coordination with community groups. But it also means investing in the conditions that help prevent violence in the first place: stable housing, mental health support, youth programs, job opportunities, and neighborhood investment.

Chicagoans should not have to accept shootings as a normal part of life. As a candidate for 49th Ward Alderman, I believe we can pursue safety and opportunity at the same time — with accountability, transparency, and real partnership between residents and City Hall."
