The Trans Obituaries Project: Honoring the Trans Women of Color Lost in 2019

This year, we’ve lost far too many souls to violence. As their deaths were shared with the world, their humanity was lost — reducing them to tragic statistics, empty platitudes, and talking points. We felt it important to elevate the group who is most impacted by the epidemic: transgender women ...

Today on Trans Day of Rememberance we honor the lives of trans people across the globe who we have lost to state and interpersonal violence.

We light our candles, deliver our words, and send our love to them..

TW: murder, violence
.
.
.
.
.
It is important to note that this year there have been 350 reported killings of trans people globally. It is important to emphasize on the word “reported” here because often times these incidents go unreported, and it is highly likely that the number of unreported murders and violent attacks would drastically raise this number.

Since 2008- 3,664 trans people have been reported murdered across the globe.

The election is today! Voting won't save us, and we cannot vote our way to Black liberation, or trans liberation. But we can use voting as a tool in our toolbox to fight for an organizing environment more conducive to revolutionary change. Be safe, be smart, please vote, and please be ready to hit the streets.

Recovery Art Festival | CPYD

Kenneth Young Center (KYC) is hosting a Recovery virtual arts show, hosted on the Communities for Positive Youth Development website, a KYC coalition.

This visual art show is seeking to highlight the experiences of those impacted by addictive behaviors, such as: substance use, self-harm, gambling or others. We are looking for visual artwork such as illustration, painting, print, graphic design, and photography.

A total of 10-15 artists will be selected for the art show. Each person can submit up to four pieces of artwork. Entries to the art show will be selected by a panel of persons within the local recovery community. We value all skill levels, including beginners, professional artists, artwork made in treatment, students, doodlers, and more.

The theme is visions. What are your dreams, visions and aspirations for personal or societal transformation when it comes to recovery from addictive behaviors? We welcome both new and old artwork. All are welcomed to apply!

“Being out and proud means celebrating every part of myself, even the parts of me that the world will try to use against me, try to weaponize to invalidate me, try to name as evidence that I am a false god. It means loving myself and other queer and trans people with my whole heart, openly and unapologetically. It means understanding that my gender, my divinity, is not something to be understood by others, it is something to be revered, to revel in, to keep protected. I am the answer to my ancestors’ prayers and my open manifestation of that power, my healing, and my transcendence is not something I could hide even if I tried. I invite people in, to engage in mutual worship. That, is what it means for me to be out and proud as a Chinese Vietnamese queer trans woman, a child of immigrants, an ancestor in the making.” Instagram user: @alexjenny_ for #oneofthem #ourpridenow 📷: @darlineandco

@FrancesTEDF is partnering with Black LGBTQ+ communities across the nation to share their investment in Black trans education. TFTEF believes that regardless of GPA, writing, training, and all other restrictions used for scholarship eligibility, our Black trans and non-binary scholars need support.

Theyre in the final stretch of raising the last $20k to reach their goal. If you have the funding, you know what to do! Black trans folks deserve to dream! Donate $20 today to @FrancesTEDF to ensure 20 Black trans students are funded for fall. Donate here: https://buff.ly/2XEz0dZ‬

Next year, they will be launching an academic journal devoted solely to Black TGNC academics. Scholars do not need to be affiliated with an academic institution to write for the Frances Thompson Academic Journal; you need to have done the work, done the readings, and done the research.

So if you or a fellow Black TGNC comrade is navigating the ivory tower within academia, this is a great opportunity to secure some coins, network, and potentially be published!
