Chicago Police Department

It has been 19 years since that tragic day in September.

On that day, 343 members of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY), 23 Officers from NYPD, and 37 Officers from The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey ran into danger, risked everything for their City, and made the ultimate sacrifice for their community and for their Nation.

The men and women of the Chicago Police Department will never forget those heroes, never forget what they did on that fateful day, and never forget their ultimate sacrifice.

Stay Home Please

‪The most important aspect of our mission as Chicago Police Officers is ensuring of the safety and welfare of all Chicagoans. ‬

‪To that end, Officers will continue to patrol the lakefront, riverwalk, the Bloomingdale Trail (the 606), and all Chicago Park District parks, all now closed to the public.

As has been said repeatedly, these closures, mandated by the Chicago Department of Public Health, have been established in order to prevent large gatherings and to protect the health and safety of the City’s residents during this outbreak.‬

The men and women of the Chicago Police Department need you to #StayHome and help prevent the spread of #COVID19 so we can continue serving the people of Chicago.

You're worth it.

ONE CHICAGO: On the morning after the coldest day of the year, a pair of CPD SWAT officers rescued an individual who had fallen into the freezing waters of Lake Michigan near the 600 block of N Lake Shore Drive. The individual was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, following a coordinated effort between the CPD Marine Unit and the Chicago Fire Department.

Rescue footage begins at the 5:43 mark.

A special thank you also goes out to the individual who looked out for their fellow Chicagoan and flagged down assistance from our first responder community. As always, if you see something, say something.

Two of our 12th District officers used lifesaving skills learned in Law Enforcement Medical and Rescue Training (LEMART) to aid a gunshot victim on Monday afternoon. Upon arrival to the 2000 block of W Jackson Boulevard, the officers saw a 59-year-old man in a vehicle with a gunshot wound to his thigh. Officers applied a tourniquet to the victim and also used an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK), similar to the one shown here, to apply gauze and an emergency hemorrhage bandage. The officers were able to control blood loss before the victim was taken to the hospital and stabilized. A nurse at the hospital said the officer's quick actions helped save the victim's life.
