UIC Undergraduate Student Government

UIC Undergraduate Student Government Thank you for visiting the official page of the University of Illinois at Chicago Undergrad FAQ:
1. "Is USG a club?" No. Suggestion or comment?

The Undergraduate Student Government is the official governing body of undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Chicago. "Is USG only for students studying politics or for students interested in governmental procedure?" No, USG is for all and every student! In fact we have a wide variety of undergraduate majors serving on USG from every college and department.

2. "Do I have to run

in the Student Elections in March to become a member of USG?" No, although running in the student elections guarantees you a seat for the entire upcoming academic year, there are other ways to become an assembly member or an associate member now. Visit http://www.uic-usg.org/about-usg/become-a-member/ to learn how.

3. USG is the governing body of the students and acts as the student representative in administrative affairs and university initiatives.

4. "Where is the USG office located?" The USG office is located in Student Center East on the 3rd floor. Take the stairs or elevator on the first floor (near either entrance of the bowling alley), or from the second floor Inner Circle through the stairwell in the Commuter Student Center or the elevator behind the Sbarro restaurant.

5. "When are the USG meetings?" The USG general body assembly meets every Thursday at 5:00 PM on the 5th floor of SCE (using the elevators near Montgomery Lounge). USG committees meet additionally throughout the week on separate times.

6. "What goes on in USG general assembly meetings?" We vote on resolutions concerning internal affairs and student issues. We discuss potential projects, ideas, and campus news. We debate ideas and present findings on student issues. The force of 30 students working together every week is the key to productivity!

7. "What can USG do for my UIC student organization?" USG offers group funding! USG may provide financial assistance to student organizations for academic functions off campus that serve in the best interest of the University. To learn how visit http://www.uic-usg.org/group-funding/how-to-request-group-funding/.

8. "How can I stay informed on USG news?" First, "like" our page. You can also request to be added to our mailing list to receive our monthly newsletter. To be added to our mailing list, submit a request at the bottom of our website homepage: http://www.uic-usg.org/ OR send us a Facebook message here. ✊🏼 PHRA passes in UIC Student Government ✊🏼
This week, UIC Undergraduate Student Government passed a resolution endorsing the Philippine Human Rights Act (PHRA)! If passed in Congress, PHRA would cut US military aid to the Philippines due to grave human rights violations under President Duterte. We are celebrating this victory, but we know our work is far from over. Read on to learn more!

For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Campus Advocacy Network and UIC Fraternity and Sorority Life will launch our inaugural GBV Leadership Training for student leaders for Greek organizations on campus on Wednesday April 7 at 3pm CDT.

Leadership training is distinct from the regular GBV training in that it goes beyond information dissemination and instead focuses on cultivating moral courage among new generations of fraternity and sorority leaders in engaging in survivor-centered practices and creating survivor-centered spaces.

Outgoing UIC Undergraduate Student Government student leaders Wasan Kumar and Bayan A. Hammad have also been pushing this type of leadership training for all student organizations on campus. We look forward to seeing their efforts come to fruition at some point in the near future.

Look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday.

This Is Me! presents the words of Wasan Kumar, the President of UIC Undergraduate Student Government.

We appreciate Wasan's advice here. Go beyond your discipline. Mentors are everywhere, including disciplines beyond your own.

Different disciplines are not just about substantive knowledge; they are also about different worldviews as well as different methods of investigating the world. It is important to go beyond your own discipline and learn how other disciplines see and understand the world.

Mentors are everywhere. There are many interesting programs offereed at UIC. Please check out interdisciplinary programs such as Gender and Women's Studies and Global Asian Studies. Faculty members in these programs will equip you with the ability to examine the social world critically and pay attention to the intersectional structures of power inequity.

Don't forget. College is the time to broaden your horizon and expand your worldview. Don't miss the abundance of opportunities for learning here on campus.

Hope everyone is doing well so far. Reach out to CAN staff if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you, Wasan, for your wise words. We appreciate YOU.
This Is Me! presents Bayan Hammad, the Chairwoman of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at UIC Undergraduate Student Government. There are tons of upcoming collaborations between CAN and USG. Please look out for our collaborative events.

Thank you, Bayan, for pointing out the importance of patience, which is particularly important as we struggle to connect with one another in the virtual world.

We all have goals and dreams we want to reach. There will be times that we will confront barriers and obstacles that might force us to take a detour. Patience is critical in that we will get to where we need to and want to go as long as we stay focused.

It's the second week of school, and we hope everyone is doing well so far.

Reach out to CAN or any other campus offices if you have any questions or concerns.

Make a habit of asking for help. When you ask for help, you also give others the permission to do the same.

Thank you, Bayan, for your words of wisdom. We appreciate YOU.
We still have orientation activities this and next week.

CAN has planned a series of welcoming events in September for everyone.

The Beginning of A New Journey: A Storytelling Circle (open to all students)
Weds (9/9, 9/16, 9/23): 3-4pm
Registration for Zoom link: go.uic.edu/CANUndergradOrientation
Please contact Dr. Ada Cheng ([email protected]) for questions or requests for accommodation.

Welcome! The Beginning of A New Journey: A Storytelling Circle, a collaboration between Campus Advocacy Network and UIC Undergraduate Student Government, is open to all UIC students.

Please join us for any of these storytelling circles to meet fellow students, share stories, and learn about CAN and USG services and programming.

Look forward to meeting and seeing everyone soon.
