According to the Army Times, "One in five women serving in an unhealthy command climate will be assaulted, and 24 percent of women serving in the Army report toxicity in their chains of command. For men, it's 6 percent.” This event will serve as an educational workshop for future Second Lieutenants who will be in charge of 36 or more soldiers. This event's goal is for cadets to point out the signs of sexual misconduct and know what to do from there while learning the origins of r**e culture within our society. Dr. Ada Cheng from the Women's Leadership and Resource Center is to lead the workshop.

In the light of recent attacks on Asian and Asian American communities across the nation, we are mourning and our hearts are with the family members suffering this terrible loss. Violence against Asian Americans has been surging the past year, with nearly 3,800 “hate incidents'' reported from March 2020 to February 2021. Sixty-eight percent of these incidents were reported by Asian women, many of whom are working-class. We have ask the UIC administration to provide support for its Asian / Asian American students since they have
taken such pains to portray the university as a diverse and welcoming community. However, we are deeply disappointed to hear the (UIC) administration’s grossly insufficient response to the recent attacks, along with their continued failure to meet the needs and demands of numerous student groups and organizations.

In our refusal to be pitted against other oppressed communities, we call for solidarity to end ALL systems of policing and white supremacist, racialized, and misogynistic violence against Black, Indigenous, and all communities of color. We stand in solidarity with Black student leaders, and support both the February 2021 demands and the original Juneteenth student demands letter. We rise up together because our liberation is bound together.

Read and Endorse the Letter of Demands as an individual/organization:

For Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Campus Advocacy Network and UIC Fraternity and Sorority Life will launch our inaugural GBV Leadership Training for student leaders for Greek organizations on campus on Wednesday April 7 at 3pm CDT.

Leadership training is distinct from the regular GBV training in that it goes beyond information dissemination and instead focuses on cultivating moral courage among new generations of fraternity and sorority leaders in engaging in survivor-centered practices and creating survivor-centered spaces.

Outgoing UIC Undergraduate Student Government student leaders Wasan Kumar and Bayan A. Hammad have also been pushing this type of leadership training for all student organizations on campus. We look forward to seeing their efforts come to fruition at some point in the near future.

Look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday.

Be Aware: Relief for Yemen is our first featured organization in our campaign. We empathize with the situation and the toll it created on our students in the midst of a pandemic and the online learning environment. Due to those reasons, our students from RFY are unable to fulfill their organization’s mission and raise awareness on what is happening in their country and how it affects them and their family. USG is here to help UIC students in any possible way and stand with them during hardship and celebrate during ease. We wish RFY and our Yemeni students the best of luck with their mission of educating the community.🤍❤️ #beaware #yemencrisis #usg @uicrfy

Hello Everyone! The UIC Muslim Student Association is hosting a toys and clothes drive during the first two weeks of school. All donations will be sent to refugee children in a nonprofit organization called Islamic Oasis, where refugee children learn from tutors that help them with their school work. Eid al-Adha is an Islamic holiday where Muslims celebrate with their families and receive new clothes and toys. Since these refugee children cannot afford to have new clothes and toys on Eid, this drive will help them grant their holiday wishes. Please spread the word across campus about this drive and come donate in these locations! If you don't have time to donate new toys and clothes on campus, there's a gofundme link where you can donate money for the MSA to buy the gifts ourselves and donate it to Islamic Oasis. https://www.gofundme.com/msa-refugee-toyclothing-drive-fund
