The Undergraduate Student Government is the official governing body of undergraduate students at the University of Illinois at Chicago. FAQ: 1. "Is USG only for students studying politics or for students interested in governmental procedure?" No, USG is for all and every student! In fact we have a wide variety of undergraduate majors serving on USG from every college and department. 2. "Do I have to run in the Student Elections in March to become a member of USG?" No, although running in the student elections guarantees you a seat for the entire upcoming academic year, there are other ways to become an assembly member or an associate member now. Visit http://www.uic-usg.org/about-usg/become-a-member/ to learn how. 3. "Is USG a club?" No. USG is the governing body of the students and acts as the student representative in administrative affairs and university initiatives. 4. "Where is the USG office located?" The USG office is located in Student Center East on the 3rd floor. Take the stairs or elevator on the first floor (near either entrance of the bowling alley), or from the second floor Inner Circle through the stairwell in the Commuter Student Center or the elevator behind the Sbarro restaurant. 5. "When are the USG meetings?" The USG general body assembly meets every Thursday at 5:00 PM on the 5th floor of SCE (using the elevators near Montgomery Lounge). USG committees meet additionally throughout the week on separate times. 6. "What goes on in USG general assembly meetings?" We vote on resolutions concerning internal affairs and student issues. We discuss potential projects, ideas, and campus news. We debate ideas and present findings on student issues. The force of 30 students working together every week is the key to productivity! 7. "What can USG do for my UIC student organization?" USG offers group funding! USG may provide financial assistance to student organizations for academic functions off campus that serve in the best interest of the University. To learn how visit http://www.uic-usg.org/group-funding/how-to-request-group-funding/. 8. "How can I stay informed on USG news?" First, "like" our page. You can also request to be added to our mailing list to receive our monthly newsletter. To be added to our mailing list, submit a request at the bottom of our website homepage: http://www.uic-usg.org/ OR send us a Facebook message here. Suggestion or comment? Today is the day! Happy #GivingTuesday

This year's Giving Tuesday sustainability fund will contribute to the preservation and maintainance of UIC's biodiversity island located just south of the School of Public Health.

Additionally, the UIC Sustainability Fund supports all sustainability programs on campus, not just biodiversity efforts. They work with energy, stormwater reduction, low carbon transit, and zero-waste too!

UIC Campus Advocacy Network

Hello all, we want to let you know that USG is closely working with the Campus Advocacy Network (CAN) to combat sexual violence on campus. CAN is an amazing resource and organization, so please go support them by following their social media platforms!!

#UICCAN #UICUSG

This Is Me! presents Bayan Hammad, the Chairwoman of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee at UIC Undergraduate Student Government. There are tons of upcoming collaborations between CAN and USG. Please look out for our collaborative events.

Thank you, Bayan, for pointing out the importance of patience, which is particularly important as we struggle to connect with one another in the virtual world.

We all have goals and dreams we want to reach. There will be times that we will confront barriers and obstacles that might force us to take a detour. Patience is critical in that we will get to where we need to and want to go as long as we stay focused.

It's the second week of school, and we hope everyone is doing well so far.

Reach out to CAN or any other campus offices if you have any questions or concerns.

Make a habit of asking for help. When you ask for help, you also give others the permission to do the same.

Thank you, Bayan, for your words of wisdom. We appreciate YOU.

Hello Everyone! The UIC Muslim Student Association is hosting a toys and clothes drive during the first two weeks of school. All donations will be sent to refugee children in a nonprofit organization called Islamic Oasis, where refugee children learn from tutors that help them with their school work. Eid al-Adha is an Islamic holiday where Muslims celebrate with their families and receive new clothes and toys. Since these refugee children cannot afford to have new clothes and toys on Eid, this drive will help them grant their holiday wishes. Please spread the word across campus about this drive and come donate in these locations! If you don't have time to donate new toys and clothes on campus, there's a gofundme link where you can donate money for the MSA to buy the gifts ourselves and donate it to Islamic Oasis. https://www.gofundme.com/msa-refugee-toyclothing-drive-fund
