(CYP) is an innovative non-profit organization founded and sustained by volunteers with the mission to improve the life opportunities and health of at-risk youth using a comprehensive approach aimed at developing their capabilities. The highly effective Cabrini Green Youth Program (CGYP), founded in 1984 by Northwestern University medical students, distressed by the challenges posed to youth growing up in these isolated public housing projects, served as a model for future expansion and the addition of the Washington Park Youth Program (WPYP), established in 1995, and the Uptown Community Youth Program (UCYP) which began in 1998. Today, CYP serves over 450 at-risk youth from birth through college from these three disadvantaged/impoverished communities.

Daushaua is one of our Jr. Gardeners. She has been helping maintain the garden since she started at CYP at a very young age. She is now 15 and in high school. Due to the pandemic she can not help maintain the garden this year. So we surprised her and gave her a bag full of fresh veggies.

General information

CYP's programs engage youth long-term, from preschool to college. At each academic and developmental level, program volunteers and staff, develop interventions aimed at helping at-risk youth learn grade appropriate concepts. By combining these educational interventions with a wide variety of recreational, social, health, and career programs, CYP creates its comprehensive formula for success. CYP relies on the commitment and skills of over 500 volunteers each year to keep our programs going. Volunteers are the backbone of our tutoring and mentoring programs, the chaperones on weekend excursions, medical personnel in our clinics, our extra help at events, and professions behind our job shadowing days. If you're interested in a smaller commitment, there are projects throughout the year that volunteers also help with. Examples include: Gardening, helping keep our playground clean, painting, set up/serving at our events, hosting a job shadowing day. To volunteer in one of CYP's programs, please email [email protected] or directly contact the program coordinator of the site you'd like to volunteer with (information listed on each site's program page) to request a volunteer form.

We can bring this model to Chicago... Dear Parent/Guardian: As a parent or guardian of a child, you understand certain youth are in need of additional supports to help them focus during a time of great change and transition when they experience physical, mental, and emotional changes. These changes leave youth vulnerable to behavioral and emotional challenges such as fear, depression, anxiety and trauma. Also social influences such as social media, stress, bullying, violence, sexuality, and peer pressure affects a young person’s behaviors and feelings. In an effort to provide youth with the support they need, Lee Davis Associates Consulting,LLC, in partnership with Adaptive Behavioral Services, Inc. (ABS) has developed a new initiative (Sport Balance TM). The goal of Sport Balance is to ignite the potential in youth using a holistic, educational, health & wellness, and mentorship approach to inspire and motivate youth to have a balanced mindset and focus. Sport Balance also incorporates innovative and cool technologies such as the Roberto AppTM (www.robertoapp.com) to assist in measuring and monitoring student’s brain performance. The goal is to expose students the tools they need to manage their behavior, learn new ways of thinking, process their feelings and emotions, and live healthy. By providing access to these important services your child will be provided with tools necessary for life success…a healthy and balanced perspective. To include your child in the Sport Balance program we encourage you to complete the attached registration form, or call ABS at (412) 661-7790. Registration begins August 21, 2017 and sessions start September 5, 2017. Since the services of ABS are behavioral, they will be paid for through your child’s health insurance. For additional information regarding ABS please visit their website at www.absjamz.com. Very best regards, Lee Davis Lee Davis President & CEO
