The politics of intimidation is alive and well in Chicago & Cook County. But once you cast your ballot, NO ONE will know how you voted. Support Angel Oakley in Illinois 3rd Congressional District.
VOTE REPUBLICAN....no one will know!
There are Latino elected officials in Illinois who do not agree with my opponent, Ms. Ramirez. However, you don't see them speaking out against her publicly because there is an unhealthy culture of intimidation and groupthink surrounding this race. The more time I spend talking with people in the city, the more I learn about how deeply dysfunctional this situation has become.
Meanwhile, suburban voters are being manipulated through what I would describe as an unhealthy form of empathy - an impulse to prioritize compassion without adequately considering the consequences of the policies being proposed.
There is also a growing divide within the Democratic Party between those embracing radical Marxist ideology, including elements of the DSA, and Democrats who take a more moderate and pragmatic approach to governing.
I am not running to be a radical. I am running to serve the American citizens of the 3rd Congressional District and, ultimately, the American people as a whole.
Members of Congress have a responsibility to oversee federal spending, and our spending is out of control. America now carries approximately $40 trillion in national debt. That is not a partisan issue; it is a responsibility we have to confront.
This election should not be about red versus blue or left versus right. It should be about the future of our country, fiscal responsibility, effective government, and preserving the American values that have made this nation strong.
Every candidate should be judged on his or her own merits. Ms. Ramirez should not be judged simply by the decisions of President Biden or any other Democrat. She should be evaluated based on her own platform, her own proposals, and her own vision for government.
Ms. Ramirez has argued that because the United States is the wealthiest nation in the world, we can afford to provide basic necessities - including food, housing, healthcare, education, and childcare - as universal human rights. I believe voters deserve to ask a fundamental question: How would we pay for these commitments, and what would be the long-term fiscal consequences?
In my view, her policies lack sufficient fiscal responsibility, accountability, and consideration of their long-term costs. While her positions may be rooted in compassion and her personal experiences, good intentions alone cannot substitute for sound policy. Governing requires balancing compassion with economic reality, fiscal discipline, and accountability to taxpayers.
That is the standard I believe every candidate should be held to.
