Berger Park Advisory Council

Berger Park Advisory Council Berger Park Advisory Council The Berger Park Advisory Council is a community organization that supports the programs at Berger Park. Berger Park was developed because of early proponents of developing street-end beaches and parks on Chicago's north side, Berger Park has become a neighborhood icon.

Great for fun learning and excitement, events such as Concerts and Movies in the Park and the Annual Jewelry and Ceramics Show have contributed to the cultural façade of Chicago’s north shore area. Boasting programs that include Writer’s Workshop and Pottery, the Cultural Center is currently home to the most popular ceramics program within the Chicago Park District. Outside children enjoy the colorful 8,000-square-foot playground that features a play area shaped like a pirate ship with soft surface tiles and rubber surfacing. Community members can enjoy the beautiful view of the lake by sitting on the creative mosaic art bench. The quaint historic landmark mansion also boasts a magnificent outdoor garden space along with breathtaking lake views. Located just minutes from downtown, this unique space offers three rooms that can be rented individually for intimate gatherings or together for functions that can accommodate up to 100 guests.

La Patisserie P | 1050 W Argyle Street
.
For a truly satisfying and one of a kind pastry, treat yourself to a delight from La Patisserie P Euro-Asian Bakery. Owner and classically-trained baker Peter Yuen will astound you with artisan bread, French pastries, or a custom cake. La Patisserie sits on the north side of Argyle Street, and wonderfully reflects Peter’s more than 30 years of experience and award-winning style. From the cookies and tarts to fresh bread and croissants, this bakery offers something to tempt taste buds of every age and from every culture. So much more than a coffee and doughnut shop, La Patisserie P is the place to find authentic Asian pastry as well as the finest Western confections from an accomplished baker.
.
Peter Yuen apprenticed under Masters in Hong Kong for a decade, and then graduated from Chicago’s own French Pastry School in 2000. This diverse background, as well as an excellent reputation among regional establishments, makes Peter’s La Patisserie P unlike any other bakery in the city.
.
While you’ll find a wide array of truly satisfying treats, La Patisserie P is most well known for their decadently delicious breakfast pastries. Soft savory buns are also a mainstay, with stuffings like barbecued pork, chicken, Chinese sausage, or bean paste. Peter Yuen’s croissants are so exceptional he’s represented the U.S. at the World Cup of Baking. In fact, his croissant is considered by some to be one of the best in the world.

Inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi* we channeled the art of embracing damage into this commission by using gold and complimentary colors of Smalti glass to fill in the sidewalk cracks at the Indian Boundary Park here in Chicago. Please enjoy these images of the commission partnering the Chicago Mosaic School and @therecyclery.

*Kintsugi: to join with gold. A centuries-old method of repairing broken pottery by mending the breakage with gold infused lacquer.

Worth a quick trip to Grant Park maybe?

"Huge groups of butterflies have been seen this week at the Shedd Aquarium and Lurie Garden in Millennium Park. They’re traveling south as part of their annual migration, and this time of year is usually when there’s a peak of the butterflies in Chicago.

The butterflies could be seen Thursday at the Museum Campus, where they were resting in the Shedd Aquarium’s gardens, said aquarium spokesman Johnny Ford. Workers counted 150 in a few trees — but they expect there were many more hidden in the trees, and there were also many in the aquarium’s gardens."

While pandemic mandates have reduced our capacity and business volume dramatically, we still purchase, hand cut, prep, cook and serve a LOT of our pomme frites! Every day, our staff cuts hundreds of pounds of potatoes that are then soaked overnight to reduce starch content, blanched, drained and stored until fried a second time to crisp, salt and serve with garlic aioli. We have not kept track but we can safely say that many hundreds of tons of potatoes found welcome homes on our tables.
