Dear international students,

We hope this message finds you well.

Today we are all processing the results of the presidential election, results that came as a surprise to many of us. There are many feelings and thoughts that one can have about the outcome of this election. As international students, still learning and adjusting to American culture, these outcomes might be hard to understand and process.

The Office of International Affairs, Dr. Sumie Song, Ida Hiben and all student workers, care deeply about you and your wellbeing and want to make sure you feel supported and cared for in this time. If you, as you are processing the outcome of the election, feel like you would like you need support, space and someone to talk to, please know that our doors are open. Stop by or contact us as you feel would be helpful to you at this time.

You can also look to UMin, the Collaboratory and Res Life for support and space.

The Offices of the International Affairs are located in the Center for Student Engagement, on the first floor of the Johnson Center.

Best,

Office of International Affairs Staff

This is Mia Larson and she is currently studying at the Los Angeles Film Studies Center (LAFSC) in Los Angeles, California for the semester. She is technically a study abroad student for the semester even though she is still in the United States. It is a unique partnership and opportunity that North Park has with LAFSC.

While there, she has been able to go to Hollywood Boulevard outside of Madame Tussaud's, visit the set of the M*A*S*H TV show at Malibu Creek State Park and visit the lights at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

Throughout the semester we hope to able to share more pictures from our students that are studying at various universities around the world.

If you think you would be interested in studying abroad please contact Iba Hiben ([email protected]) for more information!

Our office would like to thank all of the student leaders and volunteers who helped during the International Student Orientation earlier this month. A lot of work goes into putting this whole orientation together and it could not be done with the help of our student leaders.

The orientation went great and the new students were able to get a feel for what they will experience while studying here at North Park University. We look forward to assisting all of the new students with their needs as the semester moves along. Again, thank you to all who helped make this orientation run so smoothly and efficiently!

Study Abroad Showcase Drawing Results

Thank you to everyone who attended the Study Abroad Showcase last night in Java Haus. It was a really great opportunity for past study abroad students to interact and share their experiences with prospective students. It was also a great way for current international students to bring in their native foods and drinks for everyone to try.

During the event last night, we encouraged everyone to like our page to stay up to date on current news regarding our office. In return for liking our page last night, students were entered into a drawing with the prize being a $10 Starbucks gift card. The drawing was conducted on Excel using the "RAND" function, so, it is completely legitimate and fair. We are pleased to announce that Cai Crystal is the winner of the Starbucks gift card. Please stop by the International Office within 1 week to claim your prize and also take a picture with our Social Media Coordinator!

Thank you again to everyone who came last night and to everyone who participated in our drawing! Don't worry if you didn't win because our office will have future events and contests with great prizes available. Our newest contest is the Logo Contest which is open to all North Park students! Simply design a unique and original logo for our office and submit it to Andrew Ernest ([email protected]) and a winner will be announced after Thanksgiving Break! More information and updates regarding this event will be posted on this page, so, remember to check it out for the latest information!
