Who was Fred Anderson and what was his Velvet Lounge like? Here is a glimpse into Fred's world and the musicians who orbited it, in photos.

Photos by the great Peter Bell.

This was Peter's self-published 2009 calendar. This meant most if not all of the photos were shot in 2008 at Fred's new Velvet, 67 E. Cermak Road. (Only one photo is labeled 2007.) Relocated from 2128 1/2 S. Indiana Ave. in 2006.

CHARLIE PARKER BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Listen to WDCB Tonight and Enjoy the Concert on Sunday!

WDCB Jazz 90.9 FM has been a great supporter of Fred Anderson Park and Birdhouse since we began planning and staging our first concerts more than 10 years ago. Through the jazz calendar and other promotional considerations, the station and the staff members themselves have gone out of their way to help us share opportunities to both play and listen to jazz and creative music.

This week continues this great tradition and growing partnership.

At 9 p.m. Tonight, Wednesday, Aug. 25, you may listen to WDCB host and jazz impresario Al Carter-Bey play Fred Anderson music and talk with Birdhouse board member Andy Pierce about Fred's legacy on the Chicago Jazz Spotlight program. And, they will talk about Fred Anderson Park in anticipation of Sunday's WDCB concert at the park, at 5 p.m.. You may listen to the program on your radio at 90.9 FM or online via:

https://wdcb.org/internet-stream

Afterward, you may listen to the archived program via:

Chicago Jazz Spotlight
https://wdcb.org/program/chicago-jazz-spotlight

And, it is no accident Charlie Parker will be highlighted on the Night Lights program, earlier tonight at 8 p.m. The show "Ornithology: A Brief History of Charlie Parker" is archived here:
