The shooting that occurred this afternoon in Wicker Park is deeply upsetting and unacceptable. I will continue to work with the 14th Police District and our violence prevention partners to use every tool at our disposal to keep 1st Ward residents safe. Nobody should have to fear violence, and my deepest sympathies are with the victim of this tragic shooting.

Dear Alderman Laspata, I wanted to follow-up on my previous emails because no action has been taken on the dangerous parking conditions at 90 Miles Cuban Cafe at 2540 W Armitage. As you can see by the attached photo, and the various other photos I have shared with you, the sidewalk is being blocked, and people with strollers are being forced to walk in the street. I've spoken to 90 Miles Cuban Cafe, and they have articulated that you and the City of Chicago have forced them to remove their parking blocks, and replace their parking blocks with small plastic cones, that cars simply run over. Can you please help address this urgent matter?
I would suggest you do something directly for the environment that also affects many who live in your ward. We have a nasty outbreak of mosquitos and noseeums in the area. They need breeding grounds. Many of the parks (like snowberry) have water fixtures that just run and pool water. That wastes thousands of gallons of water daily in the summer. Grill the park district on why there aren't push button activators for water fixtures, good drainage and timed shut-offs. Not just on in the morning and off in the evening. Green policy that saves water, reduces costs and improves the environment. You should also look into having them spray organic repellants in our public spaces (cedar oil is the primary one) so we're not eaten alive in parks. With climate change, this will be bigger and bigger problem. Ticks, mosquitoes and noseeums. Good for disease prevention and life.
Please help! This building in your ward has been vacant and abandoned for almost a decade and is overrun with rats that are now infesting the nearby buildings, including mine that I’ve had for 20 years. I work hard to keep up my building and make it a nice place for my tenants and my family. I’m spending a ton of money for a monthly exterminator to put bait boxes around the perimeter of my property, but the situation is only getting worse. There’s a notice on the gate about a hearing that is six months old. Further action needs to be taken now. This is not fair to the renters on this block in the 1st Ward. It’s 1443 N. Artesian with a vacant side lot attached.
When is your office opening back up? Thank You.
What’s the point of having an alderman, when you call there office burning gets done? There are so many kids with there swimsuits on and parents/nannies at Lucy flower park waiting for the water to come in. So many have called and complained because it was on yesterday but not today. It’s one of the hottest days of summer and the kids have no water to play in.
We live on the 1800 block of North Spaulding. These two city owned lots are in desperate need of mowing. The weeds are now 4'-5' high. Still waiting on a response from your office from a month ago. It makes our beautiful block not look so beautiful and it's becoming a dumping ground as it's not being maintained as usual.

Appreciate the ban on private booting. All the issues you raised are spot on but feel you missed the environmental impact. If one needs to hit several places adjacent to each other such as near north and halsted, moving your car one block three different times is ridiculous. I feel that even paid lots should have to honor paid parking from other lots within, let's say, one mile. With lots all automated now with apps, this would be easy to implement.

Fight crime!!!!!!! Help us to feel safe!!!!!!
The most important issue this ward faces is public safety. What definite changes are you implementing to address all the public safety issues? Where is the accountability we need from our judges, SA, police and politicians? Where is the data about repeat criminals, electronic monitoring, the kinds of charges filed by the SA, the money spent on social services and the ensuing results. We need ACCOUNTABILITY. We need DATA to be able to solve this big of a problem. While it's nice to address secondary issues, nothing should be secondary to car jackings, shootings, robberies and murders.
Can you please post information for your constituents who live in Humboldt Park about the vaccines the City says will be targeted there at the end of the month?
