From the Great Wall of China to Argentina, Japan, Denmark, Morocco, South Korea -- and prestigious East Coast boarding schools -- again this summer our rising HighSight seniors had summer learning opportunities with other high school students from around the globe.

These experiences, funded by our summer program partners and targeted foundations, expand each scholar's world view and prepares each for college experiences throughout the U.S.

Last week these seniors shared their experiences with our rising juniors and their families, as they begin the application and selection process for their own experiences beyond Chicago next summer. It's just part of the HighSight experience -- challenging comfort zones while providing new opportunities to learn and grow.

What a summer it's been at HighSight!

Our summer program has officially wrapped, and we're so proud of every scholar who showed up ready to grow - by building their academic capacity, deepening leadership skills, exploring college options, and expanding their world view. Now, we're gearing up for an exciting new school year -- and welcoming a brand new group of Freshmen, our largest class ever.

HighSight continues intensive college-access work with our rising seniors, providing them and their families with access to six selective colleges and universities as part of a back-to-school college fair.

For nearly 20 years now, 100% of HighSight graduates have earned full-tuition (and in many cases, full-ride) scholarships from high quality American colleges and universities like the six that joined us last week -- Augustana College; Dartmouth College; DePauw University; Juniata College; Knox College; St. Olaf College.

The transition to highschool can be daunting, with most freshmen entering uncertain and unprepared. HighSight helps our scholars get the jumpstart they need to begin their high school experience confident and equipped.

From intensive mathematics and writing, to leadership development sessions and discussions, and even to getting their first glimpse of HighSight’s college-access process, our first-year students develop the essential skills to enter their classrooms this fall with poise and self-assurance.

Several first-year students entering De La Salle Institute this fall recently reflected on HighSight’s summer program. Shamal Ross-Garron ‘30 said, “This summer helped me to plan and stay organized to be a better student.” Hector Hernandez ‘30 shared, “Thanks to the HighSight summer program, I feel prepared and ready for high school.”

The Barron Twins also appreciated what they learned this summer. “The summer program showed me how to be accountable for my actions and decisions,” said Esmerelda, with Ruby adding, “I will build the habit of being responsible for my work. There are no shortcuts to success.”

HighSight has supported students like this for more than three decades now, helping under-performing students turn into confident, high-achieving scholars, with 100% of our graduates earning at least a full-tuition college scholarship – something only 1% of graduates across America achieve.

Each year before their junior year in high school, each HighSight scholar takes part in a summer internship, many of them with the Chicago Summer Business Institute. In the evenings, they leverage these experiences with internsive leadership development sessions with HighSight staff and local professionals who provide guidance and share relevant insights with our scholars.

These experiences have helped scholar Alysson Cornejo '28 make the most of her placement at the Chicago law firm Mayer Brown.

"Working at Mayer Brown has brought my one step closer to my dream of becoming a lawyer," Alysson reflected, "and the evening sessions at HighSight have helped me find the confidence to use my voice."
