Rainbow PUSH Family, it is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the homegoing services of Mrs. Gurnell Sims. Mrs. Sims was one of our longest serving PUSH members and supporters. She began by heading the Operation PUSH Consumer Club, devising a plan for PUSH Expo and never stopped serving. She told us delightful stories and informed us of all that we should be doing now. Mrs. Sims faithfully attended the Rainbow PUSH Saturday Morning Forum where all rushed to speak with her and "hold court" with this queenly mother of the movement. We shall never ever forget, Mrs. Gurnell Sims. May she rest in heavenly peace.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rev. & Mrs. Jesse Jackson’s COVID-19 Update
Friday, September 3, 2021, 5:30 p.m. (ET)
Statement by son, Jonathan Jackson
ANOTHER CHANGE IN MRS. JACQUELINE JACKSON

Chicago, IL -- This is our regular family update with regard to our parents, Rev. Jesse Jackson and Mrs. Jacqueline Jackson. The updates are not medical reports, but have the purpose of generally keeping you informed.

Our mother is leaving the Northwestern Memorial Hospital and coming home. Our family is grateful to God and the medical team that treated her and that is allowing her body to continue to heal from the COVID-19 virus.

Our father remains at The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab where he is continuing to receive intensive occupational and physical therapy.

Unless there are unforeseen changes in our parent’s condition this will conclude our daily updates until our father comes home from his physical therapy at The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

We urge that you continue to keep them in your prayers.

The love that has been poured out to our family at this time of sickness and need from around the world has helped in our parent’s healing and for each of you who prayed and expressed concern we are grateful, even as we continue to express our love and concern for the millions of people who are victimized by the COVID-19 virus and its variants. We remain prayerful for all of those who are suffering as a result.

We urge all who have not yet been vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus to do so immediately.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
MARCHES TO SAVE OUR DEMOCRACY
Statement by Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr.
Thursday, August 26, 2021

Chicago, IL -- Saturday, August 28, 2021, is the 58th Anniversary of the August 28, 1963 March on Washington where Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his most well known “I Have A Dream” speech. The theme was “Jobs & Justice.”

This year there will be several different marches and rallies in Washington and all across the country and all will be fighting to save American democracy and American’s right to vote. While I will be unable to attend and participate, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition is supportive of all of these efforts to save our democracy.

There were not only the 250,000 marchers in Washington, D.C. on August 28, 1963 but also marches in hundreds of cities across America. If you are unable to make it to Washington, participate in a local march or demonstration. We must continue to put pressure on Congress especially the U.S. Senate to pass the “For The People Act (S.1)” and the “John Lewis Voting Rights Amendment Act (H.R. 4).”

The focus in 2021 is to save our democracy and our right to vote because the vote is the key to jobs, justice, raising the minimum wage, criminal justice reform, repairing our hard infrastructure (e.g., roads, airports, seaports, public transportation), establishing a new human infrastructure (e.g., day care, pre-K, family and medical leave), expanded health care for all Americans, improving public education, providing affordable housing, and saving our planet from climate change.

So we want everybody to put on your marching shoes, and keep them on until everyone’s right to vote is protected. Keep marching and keep hope alive.
