Rainbow PUSH Coalition

Rainbow PUSH Coalition The Rainbow PUSH Coalition (RPC) is a multi-racial, multi-issue, progressive, international membership organization fighting for social change.
(213)

RPC was formed in December 1996 by Reverend Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. through the merging of two organizations he founded earlier, People United to Serve Humanity (PUSH, 1971) and the Rainbow Coalition (1984). With headquarters in Chicago and offices in Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, and Oakland, we work to make the American Dream a reality for all our citizens and advocate for peace and justice around the world. We are dedicated to improving the lives of all people by serving as a voice for the voiceless.

Mission: Our mission is to protect, defend, and gain civil rights by leveling the economic and educational playing fields, and to promote peace and justice around the world.

On Friday, December 18th, Ald. Jason Ervin (28th) will send his staff to the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters to pick up bags of groceries at 9 a.m. and take them to the Harris Ice Company, 3927 W. 5th Avenue, where they will be distributed after December 18th. (Exact time of distribution pending)

The month of December is very special to Rev. Jackson and his staff for it was on Christmas Day that Operation PUSH was founded in 1971.

It has been a journey from July 16, 1960 when Jesse Jackson led seven high school classmates to integrate a Greenville, S.C. library, known as the Greenville 8, to 1968, then Operation Breadbasket, and on to 2020 now the Rainbow PUSH Coalition.

Since the pandemic began, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition has given out more than 102,000 meals to food insecure people, held “pop up” grocery giveaways, delivered hundreds of boxed groceries to seniors, veterans, churches, domestic violence and youth shelters and gave out hundreds of diapers to mothers.

Offering a helping hand is an important part of RPC’s mission especially during these challenging COVID-19 times that includes continuing Dr. King’s unfinished agenda.

In looking back on RPC’s history, during the Saturday, December 5th, Rainbow PUSH Coalition broadcast, the program will celebrate Breadbasket to PUSH Trade Bureau, Wall Street Project, Silicon Valley and the Automotive Summit, LaSalle Street.

The Saturday program begins at 10 a.m. and can be viewed on the RPC website, w.rainbowpush.org, on the RPC page or on the RPC YouTube site.

Automotiveproject.org 🚗🖥🚙💻 The 21st Annual Rainbow PUSH/CEF Global Automotive Summit, with the theme “Moving The Economic Needle Towards Equality,” is virtual this year. The challenging circumstances we’ve all faced in 2020 has forced us to alter our approach, while also maintaining our focus on the continuing fight for African American parity in the automotive industry.

This year’s truncated Summit will include the same robust conversations we have always had. As usual, some of the industry’s best and brightest will participate, as they share the extent to which their companies are working toward a more equitable industry.

This year’s Summit will include three panels, including:

The State of Black Business

Vice Presidents of Global Purchasing

Chief Diversity Officers

Additionally, we will have messages from Rev. Jesse Jackson, as well as from Michigan Lieutenant Governor Garlin Gilchrist and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan. Rainbow PUSH will also announce the awardees of the Social Justice and Humanitarian Benchmark Awards. We will also recognize our GM Scholars, Toyota Scholars, and Kia Motors Scholars, in addition to announcing our Subaru Automotive Technician Scholarship.

DETROIT, MI -- The Rainbow PUSH Coalition/Citizenship Education Fund is hosting its 21st annual Global Automotive virtual summit 8 a.m. (CST), 9 a.m. (EST) Wednesday, December 2, 2020, to discuss diversity and the state of black businesses with the theme, “Moving The Economic Needle Towards Equity.”

This year's summit will kick off with Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., president and founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, giving opening remarks.

More than 1,000 automotive executives, entrepreneurs, suppliers, dealers, manufacturers, government officials and consumers will participate virtually in the automotive industry's premier event for African Americans and other minorities.

Experts will provide the virtual attendees with "real-time" data that will prepare businesses with opportunities in the automotive industry.

Although the auto industry has been disrupted by the virus, the mission of the summit remains tenable. "We will continue to shine the light on the inequities in the auto industry while strengthening the relationships with African Americans companies and automakers, " said Rev. Jackson.

"During the last 21 years, the Rainbow PUSH Coalition has altered the business modality of several automakers through the rankings of the Rainbow PUSH Automotive Diversity Scorecard. We will continue our advocacy to make America a more perfect union."

Since the pandemic has been so disruptive, the Scorecard was not issued in 2020; however, it will resume in 2021.

After three consecutive years of more than 17 million automobiles sold annually, the auto industry is recalibrating with post-COVID-19 solutions.

This year's summit will kick off with Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr., president and founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, giving opening remarks.
