Not shown are Northside Action for Justice leaders, who rounded out our three-organization collab. It was a real community happening at the Voice Community Service Center, a former doctors office location, with more than 70 shots in arms resulting in improved health and perhaps saved lives. The last 3 Saturdays Resident Services has been doing grab and go events at some of the Voice buildings. There will be 2 more in January.

- We've done outreach to 148 households out of 214.
- We have distributed over 60 tote bags with craft kits & other goodies.
- And, within a week we wrapped 90 gifts & have distributed over 50 of them to kids in the buildings.(More to be distributed from at the office Mon. & Tues.)

A huge thank you to our wonderful resident leaders for volunteering their time! And, to our two awesome interns! We couldn't do this work without your amazing support.

Happy Holidays from all of us at Voice! Stay safe and warm this season.

Our Story

With the construction of Truman College fifty years ago, and the displacement of five hundred families, Voice of the People in Uptown launched with a rallying cry that echoed across the city -- “Development Without Displacement”.

In the decades that followed, Voice emerged as a leader and survivor among community-controlled corporations -- building homes and acquiring, developing and managing affordable housing, and engaging in partnerships to assure long-term affordability.

Uptown is now the center of Chicago’s vibrant north lakefront, flush with reinvestment activity and benefiting by improved commercial, public and private services. However, the goal to achieve and maintain a sustainable, mixed-income and diverse community is as relevant now as it was fifty years ago. Next generation strategies will be required for owners to prosper while providing mixed-income housing, and for low-income and working class renters to access the best services and opportunities Uptown has to offer. Voice of the People is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization and welcomes your donations in this, our fiftieth year. All contributions are tax deductible. You can donate in the following ways: 1. Make checks payable to: Voice of The People in Uptown, 4861 N. Kenmore Avenue, Chicago, IL 60640.

Congratulations on your Office Move!!
We are working to save the personal belongings of our brothers and sisters who suffer homelessness. This photo was among items being thrown in a dumpster. We saved it along with a Veteran's precious family photos and important paper work. One of the men in this photo taken in the 1970s helped people. We are trying to help him and I wanted to share about our efforts and this beautiful photo.
