If you visited The Butterfly House last week, you may have noticed some new butterflies and moths in our garden 🦋🦋🦋 We are excited to now host Scarlet Mormons, Lacewings, giant Atlas Moths, and more from the Philippines!!

Did you know: butterfly wings are made up of THOUSANDS of tiny interlocking scales!!

Most of the time, we can't distinguish each and every little scale with the naked eye. But when you're able to get up close, you may be surprised by just how many of them make up the beautiful colors and patterns you see on butterflies! 🦋

Here are some fun facts about the new Butterfly House at Navy Pier, Chicago! 🦋

1. There are currently over 500 butterflies in our habitat!

2. We host over 50 butterfly and moth species from around the world. The species within the habitat change weekly!

3. We work with conservation projects worldwide to protect butterflies and their native environments. El Bosque Nuevo Farm in Costa Rica is one of our biggest partners, using 100% of their profits to preserve old-growth rainforest habitats.

4. Our butterflies first arrive to us as chrysalises, and are transferred to our Pupa Hut until they emerge. You can take a quick peek inside through our viewing window!

5. We are open all summer until late October! ☀️

We are open 7 days a week! Come visit us and interact with hundreds of beautiful butterflies in our pavilion!

We are pleased to offer a $2 admission discount for all veteran, senior, and student visitors! 🎉 With international butterflies now arriving at The Butterfly House -- including the beautiful Blue Morpho -- it's an exciting time to visit!! 🦋

This discount also applies to family and friends accompanying veterans! We kindly ask students to show their student ID at the Admissions Counter to qualify.
