University of Chicago Army ROTC This is the official page of the University of Chicago Army ROTC program, part of Chicago's Fire Bat www.Army.mil

The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) was established when President Woodrow Wilson signed the National Defense Act of 1916. Since its inception, Army ROTC has provided leadership and military training at schools and universities across the country and has commissioned more than a half million Officers. It is the largest commissioning source in the American military. Army ROTC is one of

the most demanding and successful leadership programs in the country. For years, Army ROTC has been creating leaders who go on to rewarding careers in the military and civilian worlds. Army ROTC produces approximately 60 percent of the Second Lieutenants who join the active Army, Army Reserve and Army National Guard. More than 40 percent of current Active Duty Army General Officers were commissioned through ROTC.

Today, the cadets of Dog Company, Fire BN, performed a 7-mile ruck march. The cadets began at the Henry Crown Field House, journeyed to the Promontory Point and up Lake Michigan, and then back along the same route to the Henry Crown Field House. During the ruck march, cadets enjoyed some beautiful views of Chicago while singing cadences that were led by CDT Ogle.

Cadets performed this ruck in preparation for a 13-mile ruck on December 1, 2021, that will commemorate the 13 lives lost during the bombing at the Hamid Karzai International Airport on August 26, 2021.

This morning, as part of honoring our nation's military veterans, D Co. cadets went on a run to Promontory Point with cadets in UChicago's Air Force ROTC program. The interservice event symbolized that all military branches defend the same freedoms and take an oath to the same Constitution. Following the fun run, CPT O'Connell addressed cadets from both services and emphasized the importance of being grateful for our freedoms and for those who served to protect them.

Today, Veterans Day 2022, we thank our nation's veterans and remember those who have served and our serving. We express gratitude towards those who took an oath to defend freedom and our Constitution. Hooah!

In the same spirit, D Co. had an awesome week! Following a color guard event for UChicago's Booth School of Business, D Co. had the unique privilege of working out with 3rd ROTC BDE Commander, Col. Lewis. Cadets completed three full-body circuits interspersed with sprints around UChicago's quad. To conclude the workout, cadets competed in a relay race, with CPT O'Connell's team emerging victorious. Following the workout, Cadets enjoyed breakfast and a Q&A with Col. Lewis.

What a week! D Company started off the week with a run to the point and a core circuit where all cadets introduced themselves.
