January 6 is a day none of us will ever forget, but I choose not to give oxygen to the insurrectionists who threatened our democracy, but instead to celebrate the brave men and women in uniform who stood in defense of our country.

Remembering the life of US Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick who perished during the attack and the bravery, in the face of tremendous danger, of US Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman as the U.S. Capitol was under attack.

Court upholds new Illinois legislative maps

Creating a map that is rooted in fairness, equity and one that recognizes the diversity of our state has been the goal since the beginning of the redistricting process.

I am glad the court recognized and upheld the enacted legislative maps and corresponding efforts to ensure all communities across Illinois receive equal representation.

Thank you to all of the individuals and groups who participated in the redistricting process, in an effort to help make Illinois a more equitable and fair state for all its residents.
#Serving17

A federal court rejected complaints from Republicans and Black and Latino groups that the remap plan is unfair. Barring a long-shot appeal, the new maps will be in place for 2022 elections.

Tis the Season!!!

When thieves stole Christmas gifts and toys intended for children in the community, the community rallied around one of our great community partners, Kidz Korna, to help make sure they didn’t steal the kid’s joy this holiday season. Look at the baby’s face, I think we made sure the thieves were unsuccessful in stealing her joy, her smile is PRICELESS!!!

So proud to have partnered with Kidz Korna, Amazon, the NFLPA Former Players Association, Chicago Chapter, Target Area Development and too many outstanding volunteers to name to spread some cheer this holiday season.

“We are what our thinking makes us.” - African Community Proverb

I always enjoy engaging our young people, it gives me the opportunity to understand what our next generation of leaders expect from their leaders and a glimpse into our future.

The discussion I had with the dynamic students, administration, faculty and staff of Warren Elementary School lets me know that our future is extremely bright. #Serving17 #InTheDistrict

Just figured I’d share a picture of the “Militarized” equipment that saved the life of a North Carolina Police Officer when he was shot in the head. But I know that’s not important to you.... our lives as human beings doing the hardest job in the world, never were.

Your amendment to HB163 a slap in the face to the law enforcement community. Trying an individual on an anonymous claim, without an affidavit, violates one’s constitutional right to face their accuser. Allowing people to make false claims without consequences will open to flood gate for frivolous and vindictive accusations. The system will be overwhelmed. Officers will be bogged down answering these accusations without representation usually afforded by the union. Placing unfounded accusations on a searchable database will make good officers look bad. I am all for accountability in law enforcement. I believe bad officers need to be weeded out and criminally charged when applicable, but this amendment will punish good officers and force them out. Changes need to be made, but this is not the way. We should protect both citizens and good cops.
Mr. SIMS, the amendment you produced earlier this week is flaming doo doo fire. I hope you come to your senses and retract that abomination of an amendment and think real hard on a new piece of legislation that will benefit everyone in our state instead of put us all in harms way. If you are a man of any moral character I would expect an explanation for and a full retraction of this amendment. You should be ashamed of yourself trying to hide this pile under the skirt of a prescription drug monitoring bill. Complete cowardice!
