Liberating Spaces through Neighborhood Action Logan Square Neighborhood Association (LSNA) is now Palenque LSNA!

Logan Square Neighborhood Association began as a committed group of neighbors motivated by the emergence of community redlining. Today, we are Palenque LSNA, a multi-issue community organization, directly serving more than 6,500 residents and impacting tens of thousands more through nationally-recognized issue campaigns and programs. Palenque LSNA engages families in Chicago’s Logan Square, Avonda

le & Hermosa communities via our 45 member institutions. With our partners, we develop leaders, organize issue campaigns, and operate innovative programs.

Cultivating the Pipeline 🌱

We closed our week presenting the Parent Mentor Program to teachers across our partner schools.

Hearing teachers affirm the essential role of Parent Mentors in their classrooms reminds us why strong school-family partnerships matter.

At Palenque, we believe that when schools and families work together, we create stronger learning communities and cultivate a pipeline of parent leaders who are empowered to support their children, their schools, and their communities.

Are you worried about your landlord not renewing your lease? PRO Protects You! 🏘 The City of Chicago is set to introduce a transformative package of renter protection measures later this month. Renters protections have not been updated in over 50 years! The overall goal of the updates is to add protections for tenants from abuses of the housing system and to level the playing field between renters and landlords.

Palenque LSNA's Housing Team will be hosting a canvassing event this TONIGHT, Tuesday August 18th, at 3:30PM to advocate for and inform community members about the Protecting Renters Ordinance (PRO). We hope to see you there!

A group of Kelvyn Park Summer Youth participated in a Peace Circle facilitated by to discuss and share around intergenerational trauma and colonialism.

The intention set for the circle was to explore how trauma manifest in families, the impact it has, and what are some follow up actions or reflections. These topics were connected to themes the youth were exploring in their summer program.

After the Peace circle, tacos were provided and they began to plan how Peace Circles could continue to be a regular part of programing in the upcoming school year.

‘Maryangel Rodriguez is one of the interns this summer with the summer housing youth program. The Pomona College senior spent a lot of her childhood in Logan Square, when there wasn’t much to do there. Now that the neighborhood is one of the hottest parts of Chicago, the families she grew up with can no longer afford to live there. Rodriguez, 21, says canvassing can be tedious at times, but she remembers her goal: “Hearing more people be like, ‘I bought my house and I was able to stay in my neighborhood that I’ve lived in my entire life’ — that’s what we’re looking for.”’

A city ordinance allows tenants in some neighborhoods to band together to try to buy their building if it goes up for sale. Some college and high school students are teaming up this summer to let renters and landlords know.
