Mes de la Herencia Hispana: Educación Bilingüe // Hispanic Heritage Month: Bilingual Education

In the closing days of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’d like to recognize the contributions of local latine leaders. Ms. Daniela Soto, CPS educator, advocates for bilingual education starting from within her first grade Little Village classroom. Focusing on language acquisition in McCormick Elementary, Ms. Soto has the honor of teaching Dual Language, consisting of 80% in Spanish to help create a strong academic base for her students. With a decade of practice and stemming from her personal experience in immigrating to Chicago at the age of 13, she uses her own experiences to advocate for bilingual education. We want to thank you for your contributions to the community and the district!

Black women are paid 58 cents for every dollar paid to white men. In 2022, Black women would have to work until Sept. 21 to catch up to white men. It is important that we bring awareness to the pay gap disparity that effects working black women across America every day.

Under our current cash bail system, a person arrested for murder who can afford their bail can be let back out on the street before their day in court. This puts our community in danger, so I voted to pass the SAFE-T Act to ensure that can't happen. Starting Jan. 1, 2023, the SAFE-T Act will give courts more discretion on whether someone poses a threat to the community and should remain behind bars (pages 335-337). Read the SAFE-T Act at bit.ly/SAFE-TAct .

Simply put, the SAFE-T Act gets smart on crime and aims to create a fairer justice system. Pretrial detention will be based on an offender’s risk to our community, not their ability to pay.

There's been a lot of misinformation out there regarding the SAFE-T Act. The cash bail reforms made under the law will make communities safer by allowing courts to hold violent offenders who would ordinarily be able to bail out. Judges and law enforcement can still detain those who are a threat to the community under the SAFE-T Act.

Today I’m thinking of the thousands who lost their lives 21 years ago, and remembering how Americans helped each other cope, recover and grieve. We will forever remember the courageous first responders and average Americans who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. Bravery. Compassion. Courage. Grief. We saw it all from the first responders and everyday citizens who witnessed and helped rescue survivors in the wake of the 2001 bombings. 21 years later, let’s regather that American spirit in memory of the lost.

Senator Villanueva does not support the police, therefore we do not support her! Vote her out!!
Senator Villanueva, please vote NO to SB3668. It would remove all religious exemptions for vaccines (including children who are homeschooled) for every single child in the state. It would not take into consideration children who have adverse reactions to vaccines-it will be mandated that they continue the FULL schedule. If a sibling has died of a vaccine reaction-their siblings will continue to be forced to be fully vaccinated. If a child goes into a coma or suffers from encephalitis- the doctor will guess which of the combined vaccines caused it and the child will have to continue with the full schedule for the rest of the vaccines. This means that parents will NOT be able to deviate from the cdc schedule AT ALL. This would remove any option to space the vaccines out, choose only select vaccines, or choose not to vaccinate at all. This would include the flu shot as well. For denying something like the flu shot (or any other vaccine), parents would go on a DCFS list as neglecting their children. This would also allow DCFS to take your children away on the grounds of deviating from the schedule as the ONLY source of “neglect”. This is barbaric. So many families work closely with their pediatricians to decide risk factors and to spread the vaccines out (because believe it or not, vaccine companies have ZERO liability and cannot be sued). NO ONE takes responsibility for a child who has adverse reactions (that are very often lifelong issues). This bill would also allow mercury to be put back into vaccines. Mercury is a neurotoxin that was removed because it was so incredibly dangerous. Now they want to put it back into vaccines and inject it into children. Thimerosal would also be allowed to be put back into shots- taken out before because it was linked to horrible things like miscarriages. This horrific bill would put the government in charge of medical decisions for children. No vaccine is one size fits all. There is a risk with every medical procedure. The inserts themselves list a longggggggg list of risks and possible side effects. With risk comes choice! The bill infringes upon and undermines the medical expertise and educated clinical judgement of providers. This bill would violate article I, Section 3 of the Illinois State Constitution that states that “The free exercise and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination, shall forever be guaranteed, and no person shall be denied any civil or political right, privilege or capacity, on account of his religious opinions…”. Please consider voting NO on SB3668. Please represent me and the similar opinion of others in district 11. Thank you for your time.
Senator Villanueva, please please consider opposing HB4078. It would mandate that all children receive the HPV shot upon entering the 6th grade. It would be stripping parents of their medical freedoms as it pertains to their children. It would leave the government in charge of making medical decisions for children, instead of parents and pediatricians. The HPV shot has been EXTREMELY controversial in regards to the actual safety of it and HPV it is NOT a communicable disease.
Under no circumstance do I believe that any state or any other government official should mandate any person/persons to undergo a medical procedure or force any vaccination. I believe that this great country should maintain and support the freedom of ones personal convictions, beliefs, and choice regarding their body and what they may allow to be done with it and to it. It is the responsibility of parents to become educated and informed regarding medical issues concerning their children and the parents right alone to make medical decisions on behalf of their children. My request would be that you represent me and my voice concerning this matter and oppose this infringement upon my parental right. Where there is risk there MUST be choice.
Thank You
Congratulations!!❤❤

Representative Villanueva- Thank you for your support for infrastructure. This plan means Illinois can remain competitive as an integral part of the country's infrastructure system. This not only will improve our transportation systems, but also create new jobs. Transportation infrastructure is one of the core responsibilities of government and is why we voted to protect funds invested for this purpose. Thank you for focusing state investment on such an integral part of our communities.
Thank you for your commitment and support of infrastructure. This plan means that Illinois can remain competitive as an integral part of the country's infrastructure system. This will not only improve our transportation systems, but will also create tens-of-thousands of new jobs.
Thank you for your commitment and support of infrastructure.
So according to you, just because someone is a parent they should never be arrested after committing a crime? My family came to the USA legally. Did yours? Did you receive benefits for college? Because I didn’t. I won’t apologize for standing up for the people who have respect for the law. Quit using race to make excuses for those who are criminals. It is offensive. Don’t assume everyone is white who doesn’t agree with you. Mixed and Latina families all over are afraid to walk out the door because of criminals, legally here or not legally here shooting them, stealing from them and abusing them. All races! Be respectful to those who are not on your misguided soap box. And by the way, you have more than Latina people in your district. Hopefully everyone wakes up and votes you out!
