Murders are at a historic low in Chicago, so why are local Democrats bringing faulty gunshot detection surveillance back to Black and Latino communities?

This racist surveillance is being tested across the South and West Sides, despite its history of failing to prevent violence. Not to mention, the six police districts it’s being tested in are already subject to the most surveillance in the city (Wentworth, Calumet, Englewood, Deering, Ogden, and Harrison).

We need more money for poverty reduction and violence interruption programs, not surveillance systems like ShotSpotter and Flock.

We spoke with Kerr Middle School teacher Jennifer at last night’s Dist. 130 Board of Education meeting, where dozens of attendees were locked out of the space after the board decided to cap attendance. She told us how conditions inside Blue Island schools are deteriorating more each day.

Student walkouts and community protests have pressured local politicians to join calls to bring the custodians back. Despite this, the board passed up another opportunity to reinstate the custodians last night.

The community is fed up. The teachers and students are fed up. Reinstate the custodians now!

Right now, custodians, teachers and community members are rallying outside the Cook County District 130 board meeting! At the start of the school year, the Board of Education illegally laid off all of its custodians, replacing them with private contractors who have failed to meet the task.

The schools are falling apart, and we stand with the community, teachers, students, and staff who are demanding the custodians be brought back immediately!

🌽 PRITZKER, KEEP THE JOSLIN PLANT OPEN!

As Pritzker campaigns for re-election and postions himself for a 2028 presidential run, he’s made countless stops at farms across the state of Illinois. As reported this week by Reuters, Pritzker stopped at one farm in Shirley where he spoke of the difficulties farmers and agricultural workers are going through due to climate catastrophe and the illegal war on Iran: “Agriculture drives an enormous part of Illinois’ economy. We’ve got to do ‌all we can to weather the storm and get Washington to take a different course”

Pritzker doesn’t have to wait for Trump or Congress, though. He has the power to use eminent domain and reopen the former Tyson plant under public ownership. This election season, we call on Governor Pritzker to not just talk the talk but to turn his words into action.

📚Join us TONIGHT for Class 7 of Socialist Summer School: How Empires Fall.

How does major change happen in history? In this class we will place this moment in a longer historical timeline, while examining two crucial truths, that 1️⃣ empires do fall, even ones that humans never thought could and 2️⃣ the objective conditions generated by cascading crises contribute to that fall, but are not the sole reason. We will explore the why and how of Empire’s decline, and determine what comes next.

Socialist Summer School will be at Nabala Cafe (4660 N Broadway) every Tuesday at 6pm from September 8th through November 24th. Registration includes all class materials, including recorded lectures and readings.

Newly revealed documents show that 14 Chicago-area cops and HSI officers spied on an anti-fascist event in Bridgeport, using city CCTV networks, license plate readers, and undercover informants to criminalize solidarity.

From Minneapolis to Chicago, local police and federal agencies operate as a unified force to crush dissent, criminalize community service, and shield the state’s lethal borders. Protesting is not a crime—repression is!
