The Cooperation Operation

The Cooperation Operation The Cooperation Operation is a community organization that transforms vacant land into spaces for educational and economic empowerment. Their first project is the creation of a cooperatively-run organic community garden on the footprint of a paint processing plant and former superfund site, in the Pullman neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago.

Thank you,to all the volunteers who donated their time and labour power, our Comrades who shared our posts and shared the word and thank you to this land that we have the privilege in cultivating.

Today was tough, but we got through it brilliantly. We forged new comradeships and were able to eat really really well.

Until next time.....

Hi everyone! Good morning 🌞🌻

We understand why this is confusing. The bulk of Coop Op programming in 2018 has fallen under The World's Fair 2018 umbrella, so we have been raising money via that platform both online and offline.

We've actually been planning a series of posts highlighting the different gardens we are working with this year and their current haves and needs, ending with a link to donate and an encouragement to share other non-monetary resources.

However after the damage, the first post (which also naturally serves as an update to folks in the neighborhood about this specific lot) became this and we spent a long time figuring out how much information to include or not include in a single post if we wanted folks to even read the message at all and not pass by a wall of text.

It was maybe too much for a single post! We tried to make it clear that
We did not start this virtual fundraiser for THIS incident, it is a fundraiser that's been open for four months already benefitting Coop Op programming and community initiatives that has the added benefit of showing folks how much money we have raised this year and keeping them updated on how it's all going in one place!

But again, we understand why this is confusing, particularly if you haven't been plugged in to Coop Op programming over the past year. We are trying to figure out using this gofundly page but people seem to not dig it! There's only been one donor! But we have had a lot more success raising money elsewhere this year. We're probably going to completely shift to focusing on grants and in-person fundraisers in the near future, especially after all this confusion.

You can still also donate towards repairs at [email protected]~ (Leave a note that says "repairs") or drop something off at the Coop Op house on Champlain. We have just been working to keep Coop Op savings untouched as much as possible as a safeguard while we focus our resources and connections on this larger, multi-faceted platform from January until the Fair is over in late June.

ATTN:

The original Coop Op lot in Pullman is becoming more of a community-run space this spring; we are especially excited to be in touch with local high schools about utilizing the space as an ongoing Service Learning opportunity via the The World's Fair 2018 Let’s Build Garden City initiative! However just last weekend after a meeting with neighbors and local growers to discuss its future the site was vandalized pretty badly and we could use monetary donations to offset some of the damage costs, PLEASE DONATE today at tinyurl.com/SupportTheFair
