The vision of the YTC club in Evanston Township High school (ETHS) in Evanston,Illinois, is to democratize access to refurbished technology such as desktop computers and laptops to low-income communities in the Evanston community and beyond while fostering long - term relationships with future donations, educational programs, and activities.

On the 30th November 2022, YTC made a donation of desktops computers and laptops to the families in Evanston through the Equity 4 Evanston program and the Childcare Network of Evanston.

To expand our footprint we have reached out to an Orphanage in Haiti, a village in Durango , Mexico and the Proswrites Foundation in Ghana. These organizations are also receiving laptops to support their missions as we take part in a global effort to Bridge the Digital Divide. Together through collaboration and new access to technologies they can facilitate digital skills advancement of youth, women and girls groups.

Special thanks to all donors who have being supportive of this vision by making available their computers, to the Stable Road Foundation, Sargent Lundy, and to the booster club at ETHS for purchasing 3D printer for the Club and canon 4000DSLR to support CEE Fellow, Prosper Tornyi in his projects back in Ghana.

Happy FriYAY. We’ve been working hard to promote our engagements with STEM clubs at our host school - Evanston Township High school this week.

Ahead of the STEM Workshop dubbed meet and greet on Tuesday, Prosper met with the Girls Who Code to share insight on his work in promoting inclusion and access to STEM, Leadership and Entrepreneurship opportunities for young people including women in Ghana.

The STEM workshop brought together reps from the Women in Stem club and student activities to participate in the value assessment while learning about an opportunity to collaborate to donate refurbished computers to individuals and communities that need it most in November.

Earlier today, ahead of the STEM Workshop being hosted by Youth Technology Corps, we were invited by Girls Who Code club to share insight on the work that is being done by Prosper and the team at YTC as a department of state CEE fellow.

The STEM Workshop is happening today at the hub in ETHS at 3:50pm.

The goal of this workshop is to meet new students from various stem groups, exchange ideas, have fun games together and ultimately invite them to support the vision of collaborating to donate refurbished computers to low income communities and organizations in Chicago and abroad.

On Wednesday, together with the Community Engagement Exchange Program Fellow from Ghana - Prosper Tornyi, we got our hands dirty by organizing what used to be our computer workstation and showroom for refurbished computers at Evanston Township High School. It looks much cleaner and organized now.

We have free spaces now and can't wait to get back at refurbishing more computers and laptops while learning about civic engagement skills, leadership, soft skills, starting an informal conversation on preparing for college.

Looking for ways to help support local grass roots initiatives? Did you know that you could help show support for Youth Technology Corps(YTC) by adding one word to the website you visit to shop online? If you share in that guilty pleasure, known as Amazon, this will be an incredibly easy adjustment. Next time you shop, instead of heading to amazon.com, add the smile you'll get from knowing you are doing your part to help others at the front of the website you type in. Go to smile.amazon.com, and for charity you would like to support, click on Youth Technology Corps. Once you make your selection, only thing you need to do next is ensure when you shop on Amazon, add that smile. Amazon donates a portion to the organization, and you have nothing else to do. No, you don't get charged for this donation, but you do get to help by doing what you already do.

Youth Technology Corps | Teens and Technology: The Crossroads of the Future

Problem with unused electronic items piling up around the house? Why not donate them to a great cause. My company, Elite Integrations, located in Winnetka, is a partner to a great organization that could put your useless or unused electronics to help an incredible local organization. With the donated technology, you'll improve lives of so many low income and impoverished people within Evanston and surrounding communities. With all donations, you'll get a receipt in which you can write the donation off on your taxes as well. Really sounds like a win, win to me. You can visit youthtechnologycorps.org or private message me if you'd like to know more. Why not turn your unused electronics into something good for so many, instead of adding more pollution to the environment and landfills.

Basic Computer Refurbishment

The solid foundation of YTC’s programs has been the refurbishment and upgrading of used PCs, donated by individuals, businesses and institutions.

Students start with a hands-on experience in which skilled instructors show them how to take computers apart, test the components, reassemble good components into working machines, and load new YTC software. In the process, they gain comfort and familiarity with PC technology which has become essential to how they will learn in school and work when they graduate.

They then donate and set up computer labs in schools, churches, youth centers, senior homes and other places, chosen by the students themselves, where they are needed most. The students run and maintain those labs and teach others in the community how to use the computers, software, networks and the Internet to do real work. In doing so, they reinforce what they have learned and also gain basic teaching skills.

They can then use this technology platform they have helped to build to pursue other interests in structured YTC programs that let them explore, design and implement real scientific research, new applications of technology, productions using new video and web media, or entrepreneurial business ideas of their own.

Advanced Programs

After a couple of semesters, we find our students want to go on to bigger and better things, that are natural extensions of our basic computer refurbishment programs. Following our own students’ interests, we have developed several advanced programs. They build on the infrastructure and momentum that already exists at our program sites, and run in parallel with the basic programs, but at different times, so participants can stay involved in both.

We are finding high success rates attributable to building such programs on an existing technology foundation, and (from the point of view of each student participant) on an existing, trusting relationship with familiar people, technologies and after school program structure.

A key motivational element is that each students gets to set and achieve real, career-relevant goals of their own choosing. These can be professional qualifications, the chance of becoming an instructor in the program, practical experience with the elements of building and running a business, internship with a corporate or institutional partner.

Computer Recycling with Youth Technology Corps and Morton College these will be stripped for hard drives and RAM for our high school programming ... the rest will be deconstructed teaching what's inside ... To many, it was that simple and easy. But the truth is, nothing good comes easily. 2 years ago, this journey started and finally came to pass this year.

The Community Engagement Exchange Program is the first of its’ kind to be organized and funded by the US government with the support of the U.S. Department of State ECA and implemented by IREX.

The experience of being part of this inaugural fellowship and represented Ghana 🇬🇭 with Jeffery Kwabena Yeboah is a dream come true. Inspiring the younger generation to pursue their dreams with passion and focus.

For sometime now, I have been inconsistent on Facebook for many reasons. Sometimes, you need to make time for yourself and the things that matters, which is okay.

I’m happy to receive my certificate of completion and 6.5 Continuing Education Unit from the George Mason University from the Senior Program Officer at the U.S Department of State, Sydney Plunkett under my project theme: Women and Gender Issues.

My story is the story of my mother and growing up in Battor. About 68 girls make it to senior high school as compared to 100 boys. More than ever, this has become difficult due to several economic and systemic challenges. This must change! As I look forward to implementing our post practicum project focused on improving the attrition gap through alternative digital, employable and leadership skills training.

I owe my biggest gratitude to Mawu [ God ], my family, supporters and my new family and partners at Youth Technology Corps - David, Mark Lennon. My leadership coach, Carmen, CEE Advisors and Specialist Mentors.

And to the best global network, CEE Fellows - aka: the resilient global group 😀.

PS: The shout of support in the video is how we stood up for each other throughout this entire journey that just begun. I decided to turn the flag upside down 😂😂.

Before you congratulate me, kindly pause and make a pledge to support and invest in promoting equitable access to all forms of economic and skills opportunities to everyone including women!
