The National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors (NAFED) is a trade association serving companies that sell, distribute, and service fire equipment. Nearly all of our members sell and service portable fire extinguishers in addition to a full range of fire protection services including the installation and/or maintenance of pre-engineered kitchen systems, industrial systems, fire alarms, sec

urity systems, sprinklers, fire hose and standpipes, and emergency and exit lighting. You can find NAFED members working in commercial, industrial, and residential settings making buildings safe and giving individuals the tools they need to fight early-stage fires.

🔋 NFPA 800 - The Upcoming Battery Safety Code
Lithium-ion batteries are everywhere—from manufacturing facilities and warehouses to energy storage systems, EVs, e-bikes, and consumer products. As battery use continues to grow, NFPA is developing NFPA 800, the new Battery Safety Code, designed to address battery safety throughout the entire lifecycle—from manufacturing and transportation to storage, use, and disposal.
⚠️ Topics expected to include:
✅ Thermal runaway hazards
✅ Fire and explosion risks
✅ Storage and transportation safety
✅ Emergency response considerations
✅ Battery manufacturing and end-of-life management
If you work in fire protection, code enforcement, risk management, manufacturing, or battery storage, this is a code development you need to be watching closely. NFPA 800 is expected to become a major roadmap for battery safety across multiple industries.

The 2027 Editions Are Here!
If your fire protection company services, inspects, installs, or maintains commercial cooking fire protection systems, the 2027 updates are available.
The NFPA Standards Council has officially issued the 2027 editions of NFPA 17, NFPA 17A, and NFPA 96, and these new editions now supersede all previous versions.
📘 What's New?
✅ NFPA 17 – Updated testing requirements after maintenance, terminology revisions, and clarification regarding fire alarm system impairments.
✅ NFPA 17A – Revisions to impairment and deficiency definitions along with terminology updates for consistency with NFPA 72 and NFPA 96.
✅ NFPA 96 – Clarified requirements for solid-fuel cooking operations, reorganized grease buildup inspection requirements, and added a fire alarm system definition to improve code correlation.
Staying current with code changes helps ensure compliance, improves technician knowledge, and keeps commercial cooking operations protected.
