"On April 22, 1970, 20 million Americans turned out to celebrate the first Earth Day with a series of national teach-ins and demonstrations organized to rally the country around environmental causes.
Momentum for Earth Day harnessed in the aftermath of that initial event can be directly tied to the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency as well as passage of landmark legislation including the Clean Water Act.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, which has since become globally recognized and grown to encompass climate change, organizations and governments around the world had planned to mark the milestone Wednesday with massive cleanups, climate strikes, sit-ins, and a renewed sense of urgency and purpose."

Shopping small adds up — all year round
Making a difference in our community is as easy as shopping small.
Because when you support your favorite small businesses throughout
the year, you help our neighborhood thrive.
Every time you pick up a coffee at your local café, grab lunch at the mom-and-pop shop, or buy a new bag from a local store, you’re making an impact in our community. In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community.

Important Info to Know
We have received reports that ICE raids will begin this weekend. This is the time to spread the word to all of your neighbors, friends, and family. Regardless of your status, you have rights.
Exercise your rights during an enforcement action:
- If you are pulled over in a traffic stop: Ask if the officer is from the local police department or ICE. Immigration officers often identify themselves as “police,” but it is important to know what agency they represent. If they are ICE officers, you do not need to answer any questions or provide any documentation before you speak with a lawyer.
- If an officer knocks on your door: Do not open the door. Officers must have a warrant *signed by a judge* to enter your home. ICE warrants are not signed by judges.
- All people have the right to remain silent. You do not have to answer any questions or show any documents to an immigration officer. Ask to speak with a lawyer. (more in the link below)
If you are a U.S. citizen and witness an ICE enforcement action, help document it and hold ICE accountable by recording the action with your phone and contact the Family Support Hotline at 1-855-HELP-MY-FAMILY (1-855-435-7693) to let them know what happened

The Most Reverend James Alan Wilkowski announced today that the 2017 Bishop’s Dinner and Awards Ceremony for the 20th anniversary of the consecration of the Church will be on Saturday, November 4th at the Diplomat West Banquets. The Dinner, which also commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Episcopal Consecration of Bishop Wilkowski, will honor the work of individuals and organizations with the Saint Joseph the Worker Award. The Bishop selected the Saint Joseph the Worker Award because those chosen to be honored have witnessed the example of Joseph – working for the greater good and doing so with love and humility. The annual celebration provides the Bishop and the Evangelical Catholic Diocese of the Northwest the occasion to simply say “Thank you” to the Honorees. Video Transcription Bishop Alan Wilkowski said: “I am not sure how many of you are familiar with the Rogers Park neighborhood in Chicago, but one of things that it did not have was some sort of structure or organization to support the business community and Bill Morton took it onto himself with very little professional training but a hunger in the stomach to provide something to elevate and to bring together the businesses of Rogers Park and thus what came from it is now the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce.” Bishop Alan Wilkowski said: “There isn’t an issue that Bill and the Chamber aren’t afraid to tackle. The Chamber was the first Chamber within the city to oppose the soda tax in Chicago in Cook County. It has taken a proactive stand to remind the community and the political leaders that crime violence must be address and must be brought down. There is not an organization that Bill will not take time out of his schedule to talk with, and I must admit at times I am jealous of his ability to network he has developed a rolodex exceedingly unique and diverse. What most people are really more concerned about there 401(k), at all sort of things, Bill has worried about the welfare of the men and women in
