Tuskegee University has instituted a strict new student dress code policy ahead of the upcoming academic year. Announced by University President Dr. Mark A. Brown in a message to parents, the policy rollout coincides with the university's largest incoming freshman enrollment in 32 years.

According to reports from outlets like TheGrio and Black Enterprise, the administration's stated goal is to build career readiness and establish a professional foundation for the workforce.

Both bonnets and du-rags are explicitly banned from being worn inside campus classrooms and the university cafeteria. Students are barred from wearing bedroom shoes or house slippers in academic and dining spaces. Revealing clothing is prohibited in classrooms, dining areas, and all official university functions.

All students are required to possess and wear a business suit and appropriate dress footwear for formal university events (such as Convocation) or business meetings.

Campus faculty members have been officially authorized to directly address and discipline students who fail to comply with the new guidelines. The dress code rollout is paired with an institutional push for professionalism that includes tighter classroom attendance tracking and a ban on unauthorized cell phone use during class.
