Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest forms of the disease. Taking on big insurance companies hasn’t been easy but I know that early detection could make all the difference—it’s critical that screening is accessible and affordable for every Illinoisan.

Right before the pandemic began, we had the chance to hear from Hayli Martenez and why entrepreneurs under 16 should not need a permit to operate things like lemonade stands. When in Springfield, I will continue to fight on behalf of young entrepreneurs like Hayli.

Illinois passes law raising teachers' minimum salary to $40,000

One of the ways we appreciate teachers is by paying them more. We passed this bill in 2019.

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) signed legislation Thursday that would raise the minimum salary a teacher can earn in the state to $40,000 by the first day of school in 2023.

Pandemic assistance is on its way for renters in Illinois. Not having to worry about having a roof over head is one step forward in allowing people to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Thank you to all of the essential workers this past year. I will always stand on the side of workers rights. #MayDay

Unions have been fighting for better working conditions during this pandemic. We must continue to provide workers with better benefits and better wages as they were in the front lines of this pandemic

Los sindicatos han peleado por mejores condiciones de trabajo durante esta pandemia. Tenemos que seguir proveyendo mejores beneficios y mejores salarios a los que han estado en la primera línea durante esta pandemia.

Whether we are talking about teachers, laborers, nurses, or social workers, I will always support our unions, and the right to collectively bargain. It is the fundamental cornerstone of a democracy, and I will always have their back!

Illinois Senate Democrats are Fighting for All of Illinois.

From capping the out of pocket costs of insulin to making it easier to vote, Senate Democrats are fighting for middle and working class families in IIllinois. It’s why we’ve raised the minimum wage, and are fighting to provide fairness in our tax system.

We’ll continue to fight for the expansion of healthcare, including mental health services, and the lowering of prescription drug costs. We will also keep up with our broadband and infrastructure investments across the state, while creating green jobs and mitigating climate change.

A few years ago, we passed a historic education funding reform to attack the inequities built into our system, and while significant progress has been made, we will continue to advance educational equity from Pre-K all the way to trade school and higher education.

Senate Democrats are working towards reform, whether that be ethics or criminal justice reform, or providing the necessary and overdue investments in underserved communities across the state. Join us in this fight.
