Syrian Community Network

Syrian Community Network Syrian Community Network (SCN) works alongside immigrants and refugees, with care, through needs-based Case Management, Education, and Immigration services.

Declaration of Values: Our Why
Born out of the Syrian refugee crisis, Syrian Community Network was founded with the purpose of easing the transition of newly arrived refugees as they acclimate to life in the US. Just as the number of newly arrived refugees has decreased, anti-immigrant, anti-refugee sentiment has grown. SCN strives to continue its founding mission in providing a holistic model of

direct service for all those in need — and building community by preserving culture — regardless of religion, ethnicity, immigration status, or sexual orientation. We maintain our original name, not to exclude other groups, but rather to honor the history of those original families who survived their experience to build new lives here in the US. SCN’s values and ethical principles reflect who we are and how we stand as an organization:

Develop relationships that make a positive difference in our client’s lives. Uphold the highest level of integrity in all of our actions and work together as a team to meet the needs of our client’s and the organization. Value our clients and encourage their development and determination to potentially lead successful, independent lives. Exhibit a strong will to continue to grow as an organization to deliver and serve our community. As a voice of immigrants and refugees, we champion refugee resettlement by dismantling local, national and international resettlement barriers, and stabilizing and procuring support for refugees.

👏👏👏We are so proud of Palwasha, a paralegal with our immigration team, who recently presented her project through the Civic Engagement Fellowship. Her idea, Bridges of Belonging, is a multilingual platform envisioned to help Afghan immigrants and diaspora access trusted information and community resources in English, Dari, and Pashto. We will always support our staff and community and are thrilled to see Palwasha lead this initiative to make a meaningful difference in peoples lives. Round of applause to you!

Due to ticket price changes, we have decided to postpone our outing to Soldier Field to October 10th, where we will watch Chicago Fire FC take on New York City FC! Purchasing tickets through our unique link will still give our children the unique opportunity to walk on the field with the players, and a portion of the proceeds from each ticket sold will go to funding SCN's programs. Help our kids take the pitch and purchase tickets at the link in comments!

We want to send a huge shoutout to , who donated games and a nintendo switch to our community center and provided an additional avenue for learning and enrichment for our education program! Our kids (and staff and volunteers) have had a blast playing together and truly appreciate the support. Chicago loot drop is a nonprofit organization that spreads positivity to their community through games. They mainly donate games and spend their time playing with the children at Comer Children’s Hospital and Maryville Children’s Healthcare Center. Check out their page to learn more the many ways to volunteer, donate, and support their efforts!

More scenes from the event! So glad to be able to attend and have two panelists from SCN speak on Belonging and Infrastructure. Chicago is a welcoming city, and we were glad to share the room with people who embody that welcoming spirit. Thank you to the organizers for having us!

Great job to our two panelists, Nate and Daniel, who spoke today at the Belonging & Infrastructure Panel hosted by Re-Imagining Migration. All the panelists gave wonderful insights and we were honored to learn from and share knowledge with the organizations that attended. Learn more about our Education Program on our website! Fantastic job team!

Callum consistently goes above and beyond as a volunteer, bringing energy, compassion, and reliability to everything he does. The education team is incredibly grateful for all of his help and dedication. It is truly a pleasure to have him as part of our community, and he definitely deserves volunteer of the month for the care and positivity he brings to both students and staff alike!

Whether he is assisting students with homework, encouraging them through challenges, or spending time playing games, Callum creates an environment where students feel comfortable, engaged, and excited to participate. He has a wonderful ability to balance fun with support, building meaningful relationships while also being a dependable role model. He takes the time to connect with the students he works with, making each young person feel seen, supported, and valued. We are so proud of all that he has accomplished at SCN, and his presence has made a lasting impact on our program.

Thank you Callum!!!

Some SCN staff members were able to attend a press conference on Tuesday hosted by in response to the supreme court decision upholding birthright citizenship. While beyond relived to celebrate this win, we also got to stand in solemn solidarity with other communities whose rights have been limited by the supreme court in this most recent session, including Syrians and Haitians on TPS status, those who are seeking asylum at the southern border, and transgender women. The speakers and the organizations they represented reaffirmed their support for immigrant and refugee communities, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community. With these recent and increasing attacks on human rights, we are immensely grateful for the opportunity to stand together with our Chicago community and say that immigrants and refugees belong in this city and this country.

Last week the Supreme Court ruled in favor of ending Temporary Protected Status for over 350,000 Haitian and Syrian people living in the United States. Leaders from our community gathered to hold a press conference in response at SCN’s Community Center.

We want to send sincere thanks to the speakers, organizations and neighbors that came to our press conference this morning in response to the Supreme Courts decision on Temporary Protected Status. The elimination of TPS for Syrian and Haitian nationals will effect over 350,000 people who have built their lives in this country, and become our neighbors, coworkers, and friends. We ask our elected officials, our neighbors, and our broader community to stand with us in supporting a more humane and welcoming path forward.
