🚫🔥NO BURNING🔥🚫

The entire Mat-Su Valley is under burn permit suspension. There is an extremely high danger of fires starting with a single spark. Please don't risk it. Mind your butts, don't park (or run) your hot vehicle on dry grass, and (we can't believe we have to say this) fireworks are NOT ok.

Stay safe neighbors!

Forwarding from Chickaloon Community Council:

Good morning Chickaloon Community! It is sure chilly out there during this cold snap and I hope everyone is keeping warm. I was contacted by Donna from the Chickaloon Tribal Police regarding welfare checks and assistance. They will be driving up and down the highway to try and catch anyone who may break down and can't keep warm. If you do need to venture out, please make sure to pack essentials to help keep warm until help arrives. The tribal police are also doing everything they can to check in on those without heat, that may be in danger (elderly who need help for example) and can't stay warm. If you are one of these individuals or are concerned about someone please contact their office at 907-745-0700 immediately. Terri will be handling dispatches and will they will get someone to the location as soon as possible. They are also able to take people some place safe to be warm. These temperatures can be dangerous so please be proactive and call if you need help.

Chickaloon has responded to 2 structure fires in the last 3 days, which is very uncommon in our area. As we move into this cold spell please remember to practice safe heating practices and if something does happen in your home make sure you have a plan before something does happen.

1. IF YOU HAVE A FIRE OR EMERGENCY CALL 911. Please do not call your neighbors and friends first to report the fire, this just delays the fire department or EMS response.
2. If you do have a fire DO NOT GO BACK INSIDE. This not only endangers you, but others who might follow you back inside and the responders who may have to find you.
3. Check your wood stove pipe frequently and have it swept regularly
4. Making sure your heating appliances have the proper clearances around them. (Toyos, electric heaters, wood stoves, propane heaters, etc)
5. Have a preplanned escape plan for your family and a meeting place.
6. Make sure to have working smoke and CO alarms. (These do expire every 10 years and do have batteries that need to be replaced)

Chickaloon is an all volunteer based department. We are very thankful for our volunteers who not only took time away from their family and jobs, but were also willing to brave the 0° and 30-40mph winds the last couple days. It makes for a challenging response.
