Planned Power Outage This Weekend – Please Read

TVA will be performing urgent repairs on the substation this weekend due to weather-related damage from last week. The work is scheduled for Saturday night at 11:00 PM through approximately 4:00 AM Sunday morning (Estimated 4 to 5 hours). Unfortunately this will interrupt Chickamauga Power Customers.

This nighttime window was intentionally chosen to minimize impact during high heat and peak customer usage, as well as to reduce effects on water and sewer service.

Chickamauga power customers will experience disruption of electric service and we recommend:
• Charging phones, flash lights and other devices beforehand
• Preparing for possible brief outages

We appreciate your understanding as TVA works quickly to prevent further damage and ensure reliable service. Questions? Please Call City Hall at (706) 375-3177.

Thank you

EXCITING NEWS: The City of Chickamauga has been awarded a $40,000 grant though Georgia Rural Center to fund a professional redevelopment planning study for the former Crystal Springs Mill site and other City owned properties in downtown Chickamauga.

Georgia Conservancy will lead the study, working with partners from the Center for Rural Prosperity and Arnett Muldrow. The study will include a full market analysis and community engagement to develop a land use vision and conceptual redevelopment plans for the 139-acre site.

In May this year, Chickamauga was awarded $1.45 million in federal funding to begin cleanup, move electric lines underground, and address blight at the historic site. The City has also applied for an additional $4 million in EPA Browns Field federal funding to help complete the remediation needed to prepare the site for its next chapter.

Together, these resources position us to move forward with clear, realistic, and community-supported plans for the future of this important downtown property.

Community input will be a key part of the planning process. Public meetings and a community survey are coming soon so residents can share their ideas and priorities. More details will be announced shortly.

We’re excited to take this important step and look forward to working with the community on shaping Chickamauga’s future.

Great news for Chickamauga!

The City of Chickamauga has received a $1,450,000 HUD grant for Historic Downtown Chickamauga Blight Remediation.

This funding will help clean up the long abandoned Crystal Springs mill site and address blight in our historic downtown area. The goal is to stimulate economic growth, create jobs, attract private investment, and develop commercial spaces, green areas, and civic improvements.

Some people are mistakenly claiming this is for, “affordable housing” or low to moderate income housing. Although we do not discriminate, that is not true.

The official grant letter and project description clearly state it is for blight remediation, not housing. There are no plans for residential units under this grant.

This is a win for revitalizing our historic downtown and making our community stronger. Let’s focus on the facts and support positive development for Chickamauga!

Attached is the official letter from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
