This class was such an eye opening experience that really made us rethink the way we approach wildfires and our tactics. OSU knocked it out of the park with this one.

Commissioner Ruth Bingham was awarded the public servant of the year at the 103rd Chickasha Chamber Banquet and Awards. In typical Ruth fashion she thanked her road crew and office staff that work for her. We are blessed to work for such as awesome boss.

The following photos showcase remarkable transformations from the asphalt overlay last fall and the recent ditch work completion. The asphalt overlay was funded through the Lake Access program, which provided reimbursement to the county. A formal agreement was established through the board of commissioners to facilitate ditch work on private property, aimed at restoring a waterway impacted by years of siltation. This drainage project protects the roadway investment by ensuring water drainage away from the county easement.

The replacement of a wooden bridge north of Middleberg was completed today. After conducting a thorough hydraulic study to ascertain the appropriate structure size for effective water flow management, it was determined that a steel pipe would sufficiently manage water flow at a substantially lower cost than constructing a new bridge. Through a collaborative effort with the Soil Conservation Department, which is the landowner on the north side of the road, trees were removed and utilized the dirt to fill deep washes, resulting in road widening and enhanced traffic safety. Only one wooden bridge remains in our district, with plans for replacement scheduled during Commissioner Bingham’s term in office.

Today, we had the crew tackle another safety issue in the county. This corner at Sooner and Cottonwood in Chickasha has been an issue for years. Commissioner Ruth Bingham has been great at working with her constituents to solve problems like these that have gone unaddressed. Her First Deputy and Road Foreman, John Nicholas, recently met with the landowner and worked out an arrangement where the county could remove the fence and grind the trees up to increase visibility in this dangerous intersection. Since the north side of the property resides inside Chickasha city limits, arrangements were made to work with the town to help remove debris. It's always wonderful when different entities can collaborate to help with public safety. City of Chickasha

This project has been two years in the making. A citizen made a request to have a drop-off filled in to provide a safer roadway for travelers. There was also a concern with the tinhorn being too short and in poor condition. This project has been on the shelf waiting for the right time to work on. Luckily, we needed to remove dirt on another project a few miles down the road, so we were able to relocate the material to this location. Today, we removed and replaced the tinhorn and placed rock on the back slope to protect this roadway for many years to come. Thank you to all the landowners who were patient with us on these kinds of issues.

This video documents a remarkable 3-week transformation, demonstrating the power of collaboration between landowners, county authorities, and skilled operators equipped with the necessary machinery. The result is the conversion of a previously impassable one-lane road into an all-weather road, enabling all three farmers to access their properties. Our appreciation goes out to everyone who contributed to the success of this project.
