Low-barrier doesn’t mean no expectations; it means people don’t have to have everything figured out before they can access shelter.

We ask our guests to follow a clear Code of Conduct built around safety and respect: for each other, our staff, our volunteers, and the space we share.

Come as you are. Respect the space. Respect each other.

That’s low-barrier at Safe Space Chico.

We can do a lot better … but not without city leadership that is focused on solutions rather than punishment. The Warren Settlement ends in January 2027 and we have a chance to do things right.

Vote for Councilmember Addison Winslow, Megan Thomas Petty for Chico City Council and Shelby Hebert for Chico City Council.

Chico deserves effective, respectful leadership.

North State Shelter Team did Mutual Aid Tuesday at the "Hands"; Also working on additions to the list of vacant properties where tiny homes could go. There is vacant land. NSST has a plan. We have a crisis.
Made up more mini first aid kits, put the cold 16 oz waters and donated clothes in the truck, picked up a couple of sleeping bags. We distributed 2 pizzas by the slice, mini first aid kits, waters, trash bags, frozen pops, Gator Aid, etc. and donated clothes. Talking to the guy who counted the food servings for NorCal Resist Chico, they passed out 54 servings of food this day. Many of those in line were elderly and or disabled. One woman in particular was especially distressed. She had lost her phone; lost her dog and apparently had lost a chance at getting in an apartment. We offered her some direction to some services that might help her. She was not happy.
We picked up a little litter for a while, as the crowd thinned. I was approached by a middle aged gentleman. He asked, “How can I get to the Torres Shelter?” I said, “You want a ride?” “Sure.” he replied, and off we went. He had slept in the bushes last night without a coat or a sleeping bag. We got him to Torres.
I left feeling sad, but fulfilled that I had done what I could to help a few people in need tonight, and grateful to the North State Shelter Team that makes it possible to soften the edges of our rough reality.

Thanks Councilmember Addison Winslow for addressing the misinformation being spread by the latest incarnation of the local right-wing PAC. New name, same people - starting with Curtis Grima, Gallagher’s Chief of Staff, who helped finance and strategize on the “Safe Chico” PAC that got Tom and Kasey elected, locked us into 5 years of supervision by a federal judge to ensure the city didn’t continue to violate people civil rights … the list goes on. 😑

Funny how these local right-wing PACs are so comfortable outright lying to you 😕
