We are so thrilled to have a brand new play structure to our emergency shelter, HAVEN! ⛱️🛝🚸

Our previous play structure had a broken slide and no shade, so this transformation means so much to the children and families we serve.

This project was made possible by an incredible group of community partners:
-The Discovery Shoppe League for awarding us a grant to cover the cost of the play structure
-Chico Rotary for choosing Catalyst for their annual President's project
-Chico Area Recreation & Park District for recognizing the need for a new play structure, helping us select the perfect one, and coordinating the project
-𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗜𝗻𝗰 for delivering and installing the new structure

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated candidate to join our team as a part-time Advocate at our confidential housing program, HAVEN.

The schedule for this position is typically as follows: Friday 5 PM – 2 AM, Saturday 5 PM – 2 AM, Sunday 5 PM – 2 AM, with on-call hours 2 AM – 8 AM on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. This role is responsible for providing direct services and coordinating educational, recreational, and therapeutic programs for housing program participants. The Advocate will also help create a welcoming and safe environment for all residents.

Review of applications will begin immediately. This position will remain open until filled.

It’s hard to find the words to encompass the amount of gratitude we have to be celebrating Anastacia’s 30-year anniversary with us.

Beginning her journey with Catalyst in 1996, Anastacia serves as our incomparable and deeply loved Executive Director. In her role, she is responsible for the overall management of the agency’s operations.

Amongst her team, Anastacia is known for being a poised, compassionate, and reflective leader.

“She is a fierce advocate for our agency,” one of the Catalyst team members said. “She is determined, intuitive, emotionally attuned, smart, and stylish.”

“I have never met someone more passionate and dedicated than Anastacia,” one anonymous board member added. “Her unwavering commitment to Catalyst is part of the fabric that makes our community great. It matters more than she knows.”

Over the past decades she has remained unwavering in her dedication to providing vital safe housing and social services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in the community she serves.

We are incredibly lucky to have an Executive Director that graciously, and collaboratively, supports our entire team with true thoughtfulness and care.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗮’𝘀 𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺! 🤩

Beginning at Catalyst as Administrative Assistant, she worked her way up to her current position as our skilled and dedicated Administrative Systems Coordinator. In her role based out of our Chico Business Office, she specializes in data collection and entry, statistical reporting, and forms development.

Around the office, eliza is known for her creativity, excellent dry sense of humor, and her ability to be the “voice of reason” while still keeping things light and gentle.

“eliza is the best,” said one of her coworkers. “She is loyal, thoughtful, reflective, observant, and independent. She is silly and funny and sweet.”

Another coworker added: “I adore working with eliza. She is hilarious, supportive, and so smart. Her chill, unwavering level-headedness makes everyone around her feel safe and calm.”

In fact, her presence is so pivotal to the team that when she was out of the office for a couple weeks, staff made a life-sized cardboard cutout of eliza to sit at her desk in an attempt to fill the void of her absence. It was somehow both disconcerting and deeply comforting.

It takes such a special person to perform this detail-oriented work with love, care, and consistency. We are beyond lucky to have had her as our rock throughout this past decade.

Michelle has worn many hats in our organization throughout the last ten years:

Beginning as a volunteer, she went on to be hired as one of our Advocates, then Volunteer Coordinator, and now serves as a wonderful Therapist based out of our Chico and Oroville Business Offices and HAVEN shelter. It’s been such an amazing journey, and we have loved having her here for every part of it!

At Catalyst, Michelle is known for her kind spirit, radiant warmth, genuine patience, and infectious laugh.

“Michelle is one of the sweetest, most caring people I know,” one coworker had to say. “She wears her heart on her sleeve and is always so thoughtful. I am grateful to be working alongside her in the therapy team."

“Michelle is an absolute gem of a human, a ball of sunlight,” another coworker said. “It’s impossible to not take immediate comfort in her presence, and I would give major side-eye to anyone who doesn’t adore her. She is a safe space in human form and is always trying her best to make a positive impact in the lives of everyone around her.”

𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗲: August 2025

𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗛𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱: 165 Hours

Sofia felt drawn to volunteer with Catalyst after our Prevention Advocate came to present at her high school campus. ”I deeply admire everything about the agency,” Sofia said, adding that helping survivors feel safe and empowered has been a truly fulfilling experience to her.

Sofia is a International Relations and History major at University of San Diego. During the school year, she works as an on-campus peer educator for relationship and sexual violence prevention. During school breaks, she returns to Chico to volunteer at Catalyst. After graduation, she hopes to attend law school to become an attorney who specializes in working with survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault.

During her time volunteering, some of her advocacy has included answering crisis hotline calls, helping with organizational projects such as sorting donation items, and representing Catalyst at community tabling events. But her favorite part of volunteering has been providing childcare for survivors when needed: she loves creating a safe, playful environment for the kids and helping survivors take time for themselves.

Sofia is a joy to be around, and her happy personality and willingness to help others shines through in everything she does. We are lucky to have her as a volunteer!

𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘀:

💜 Sofia loves traveling and has visited 13 countries, including studying abroad in Spain!

💜 Her favorite homemade food is her parent’s carne asada tacos.

💜 While in Chico, she loves to stay active through attending hot yoga and pilates classes with her mom.

💜 While in San Diego, she spends her free time at the beach whenever possible.
Relaxing with some reality TV is one of her favorite ways to decompress!

💜 She's “huge dog person” and has three pups: a Chihuahua named Pawko, a Papillon mix named Nacho, and a Lhasa Apso named Tito.
