Community service at its finest. Our Post comrade is showing us the examples of serving / VFW Day of Service. Carl Johnson at 80 years young. He’s been painting for 17 years after working locally at Koret for 27 years and 13 years at the CUSD. Carl is helping out the Chico Veterans Memorial Hall by painting over vandalism and restoring our shed to a pristine condition.

Chris Abbay watches a Grocery Outlet shopper fix her free hotdog. Grocery Outlet provided the Post with free hotdogs, buns and condiments and the Post gave them away. Patrons offered donations to support the VFW during another Buddy Poppy drive opportunity. Shane Dalton and Marc Tennison pose under the Grocery Outlet sign featuring Chris and Teresa Hostettler, our local owners who are extraordinary supporters of the VFW. Post members manned the station from 11 am to 3 pm on July 12th.

Flag retirement ceremony and Park dedication performed on June 8, 2025 in Chico CA

Chico community partners of VFW post 1555, Chico Elks Lodge 423, Scout troop 1555, Chico Honor guard and Chico Area Recreations District(CARD) participated in the retirement of about 350 synthetic fiber American Flags. We hope to continue flag retirements at this site for many years to come on the morning of Sunday during flag week at the Veterans Memorial Park in Chico CA

Ceremony was opened by the Chico Honor Guard who posted the colors. Jason Rose VFW member performed MC duties. Lela Waggoner performed a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. The Elks lodge performed the "A Brief History of the American Flag". Troop 1555 inspected, folded and placed to flags to be retired into hand built wooden boxes provided by VFW post 1555 and build by John Hancock, Elks lodge #423. Scott Schumann(CARD) renamed Wildwood Park to Veterans Memorial Park. Ceremony was closed with the retirement of the Colors performed by Chico Honor Guard.

A great many thanks are in order to all those who participated in making this happed.

Here is a list, I hope no-one was left out
