A strong Pacific cyclone is rapidly intensifying off the West Coast today (11/19/2024). This system's impacts will be felt from British Columbia all the way south into Northern California over the next few days. Heavy rainfall is expected from near Sacramento northward into Oregon and Washington, along with gusty winds at times. The far north coast of California will bear the brunt of it, with rainfall amounts potentially exceeding 10 inches in spots through Saturday. Lower totals are expected further inland, and only spotty accumulations are expected anywhere south of Fresno. Check out your local WWG forecast for details! (image courtesy of NOAA -CIRA)

Forecasted rainfall amounts have trended downwards for much of California, though the far northwestern corner of the state should still manage to see some decent totals. Most of this rain is expected to fall this afternoon, and overnight into Tuesday morning.

Chances for rain and breezy conditions return throughout Northern California during the upcoming work week. This is due to a trough of low pressure expected to dive south from the Pacific Northwest and direct moisture inland from over the Pacific Ocean. Chances for showers arrive on Monday and persist into early Tuesday for some locations. Rainfall likely stays north of the Delta, with the heaviest concentration of precipitation over the far north coast. This should help with wildfire suppression efforts in northwestern California, and potentially decrease the amount of smoke and haze that has been affecting the coast and Central Valley.
