On Friday, Chicopee Public Schools officially celebrated the ribbon-cutting of our new permanent home at 229 Exchange Street in Downtown Chicopee.

This new facility represents more than a new address. It provides our district with a permanent, accessible location in the heart of the community we serve — creating new opportunities for collaboration, connection, and service to our students, families, educators, and residents.

The central location, including easy access to bus routes, will make it easier for families and community members to connect with the people and resources that support our schools. Being located closer to City departments will also strengthen collaboration and coordination across local government, helping us work together more effectively on behalf of the Chicopee community.

We were proud to celebrate this milestone alongside City and state leaders, School Committee members, City Councilors, community partners, and many members of the Chicopee Public Schools community. We are grateful to everyone who joined us and to all those whose work and support helped make this new facility possible.

This ribbon-cutting marks an exciting milestone for Chicopee Public Schools as we begin this next chapter at 229 Exchange Street. We look forward to strengthening our connection with the community and continuing to create new opportunities to better serve Chicopee's students and families.

A New Year, A Shared Purpose

Earlier this week, nearly 1,000 Chicopee Public Schools educators and staff came together for our 2026–2027 Convocation day as we officially launched a new school year centered around a powerful theme: “Every Student Can Learn—We Make it Possible.”

At the heart of our work is a simple but important belief: every student deserves educational experiences that are inspiring, purposeful and relevant to their lives. As educators, we have the opportunity—and the responsibility—to help remove barriers, create opportunities and support every student as they learn, grow and reach their full potential.

Our Strategic Plan continues to guide that work through its four core values: Respect, Joy, Belonging and Growth. Together, they remind us to create schools and classrooms where every student is valued, supported and empowered to succeed.

We were honored to welcome keynote speaker Marlon Styles Jr., whose message challenged and inspired our educators to reflect on the power they have to create meaningful learning experiences and lasting connections with students. One question in particular resonated throughout the day: Who was the student that made you fall in love with being in education? It was a powerful reminder of why we do this work and of the lasting impact that educators can have on the lives of their students.

Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Marcus Ware, Mayor John Vieau, our MCs Daisy Roman Davis and Andrew Lamothe, our Chicopee High School Air Force Junior ROTC Color Guard, Sydney Benoit for her beautiful performance of the National Anthem, and everyone who helped make the day possible behind the scenes.

As our students returned to classrooms yesterday and the new school year officially got underway, we carry forward the energy and inspiration from Convocation with a shared commitment to doing what is best for our students—because every student can learn, and together, we make it possible.

It's back-to-school season in Chicopee! You may not be going back to school yourself, but if you're a driver in Chicopee, it's important to pay attention to the school buses out on the road!

Partnered with BusPatrol, motorists who illegally pass a stopped school bus will receive a citation and fine by mail. This is due to the new stop-arm cameras that capture the license plate of a vehicle that illegally passes when a school bus is stopped, along with a video of the potential infraction. The Chicopee Police Department later reviews this footage to determine whether a citation should be issued.

Pay attention on the road this back-to-school season and help keep our children safe!
