Today, we gathered with members of our community at American Legion Post 452 in Chicopee for a Memorial Day ceremony honoring the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.
Chief Master Sgt. Kristen Maloney, command chief, 439th Airlift Wing, reminded us that Memorial Day is far more than a holiday spent with family and friends.
“Memorial Day holds a very special place in my heart. For me, it is not about burgers, hot dogs, picnics, beaches, or fishing. It is about remembering and reflecting. Real people answered our nation’s call. They raised their right hand to serve this great nation, and they made the ultimate sacrifice — not only for the brothers and sisters standing beside them, but for every one of us and all citizens of America.”
Today, we remember the fallen with deep gratitude and reflect upon the sacrifices made to defend the freedoms we cherish.
