Chiefland officers are currently working several vehicle burglaries that occurred last night and/or early this morning. Residents in the midtown area are asked to please check their vehicles and surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity and report it to the Chiefland Police Department.

School is in session.

The first week of school in Levy County is officially in the books. However, it wasn't just the kids who were getting an education last week.

Chiefland Police officers conducted 146 TRAFFIC STOPS during the first week of school. Most of these stops were for speeding and/or texting while driving in a school zone. The vast majority of these stops were on Hwy 19 (N. Main St.) in front of the Chiefland Middle High School. This is in addition to the average of 10 violations per day detected in front of the Elementary School.

Our school crossing guards also work hard to ensure the safety of our kids as they travel to and from school everyday. Children can be unpredictable when crossing traffic.

Please put down the phones and slow down. Together we can make sure there are no avoidable accidents this year.

🚨🚨 Traffic Incident 🚨🚨

The Levy County Sheriff’s Office is on scene of a traffic crash with serious injuries at SR 24 near the Alachua County line.

There will be significant traffic delays and motorists are urged to find an alternative route. Please be patient with our responders.

—TRAFFIC ACCIDENT—

Two vehicle accident including a rollover at the intersection of Hwy 19(N. Young Blvd.) and CR 341 (NW 14th Street). Expect delays for the next few hours as both south and northbound lanes of Hwy 19 are reduced to a single lane each. Avoid the area or find an alternate route if possible.

As of 7/7/2026 5:00 PM roadway is back open.

—TRAFFIC INCIDENT—

CR 341 (NW 14th Street) is currently closed between NW 21st Ave. and N. Young Blvd.(Hwy 19)

There has been a traffic incident with power lines down/damaged. Please avoid the area and take an alternate route. CFEC is currently on scene working on the infrastructure.

On 6/9/2026 at approx. 7:45 am, a large box truck overturned near the intersection of Hwy 19 and CR 341 in the City of Chiefland causing minor traffic delays. Traffic was rerouted until the truck could be removed. This was a single vehicle accident and no major injuries were reported. Traffic was restored to normal around 9:00 am. We appreciate the public's patience while first responders worked the incident.
