The Fayetteville Fire Department and Lay Lake Fire Department would like to extend a sincere thank you to Stephen Barrett and Joel McKemie for bringing their skid steers to assist with downed tree removal following the severe thunderstorms that impacted our area.

Having this equipment on scene greatly speeds up the cleanup process and allows roads to be reopened much quicker for our community.

We would also like to thank the citizens who came out with chainsaws and helped cut up trees and drag limbs from the roadways. Your willingness to step up and help during difficult conditions is greatly appreciated.

It takes a community working together, and we are truly thankful for everyone who assisted in making our roads safer and helping with storm recovery efforts.

Please use extreme caution while driving in the Fayetteville/Lay Lake area at this time. There are several trees down that are blocking the roadways, along with debris in the road. There is also the possibly that a tree could fall at any time due the amount of wind that just come through.

Homes impacted by the temporary outage include those located along Childersburg Fayetteville Highway, Russell Chapel Road, Heasletts Road, McGowans Ferry Road, Kahatchee Loop, Camp Browning Road, Cosper Bend, Cedar Creek Road, Preserve Subdivision, Lakeview Road, Lay Lake Lane, Upper Gate Lane, Lower Gate Lane, and Riverwalk Parkway.

Approximately 1,290 homes will experience a temporary power outage for up to three hours beginning at midnight April 15.

Residential Structure Fire: Deloach Road

At approximately 2:00 AM, Lay Lake Fire Rescue, alongside Fayetteville Fire Department, responded to a reported residential structure fire on Deloach Road. Due to the reported conditions, mutual aid was requested from Oak Grove Fire Department. Upon arrival, initial units encountered active fire conditions on the A/B corner of the residence, with fire involvement in the master bedroom and bathroom. A transitional fire attack was quickly initiated, allowing crews to achieve an initial knockdown from the exterior.

Following this, Lay Lake Fire Captain Dylan Jenkins and Oak Grove Fire Captain Jason Devine made an aggressive interior push, successfully bringing the fire under control. Their efforts, along with coordinated operations from all responding agencies, were instrumental in containing the fire to the master bedroom and bathroom area.
Due to the extent of the incident, additional manpower was requested from Sylacauga Fire Department to assist with suppression and overhaul operations.

Although the fire was contained to a limited portion of the home, smoke damage impacted the remainder of the structure. The master bedroom and bathroom, along with all contents within, are considered a total loss.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family affected as they begin the process of recovery and rebuilding.

All units cleared the scene and returned to service by approximately 5:30 AM.
