We are so proud of our relationship and trust given to us by Dr. Shea Duerring. He along with Dr. Jason Eversull (our medical director) have been instrumental in allowing us to be apart of the Rapid Sequence Intubation trial as well as training our staff on carrying blood products in a prehospital setting. He is an amazing man and his passion for prehospital care is amazing.

Shea Duerring, M.D., associate professor in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Pediatrics, has been appointed by the Secretary of Transportation to serve on the National Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council (NEMSAC).

A man was shot in Fayetteville, which is in Talladega County, and was brought to the Childersburg fire station. EMS took him to UAB Hospital in Birmingham and used blood on the way to help with his severe bleeding.

Super excited to report the Childersburg Fire Department performed its first prehospital blood transfusion to a gunshot wound victim who came to the fire station in a private automobile. UAB Trauma Doctors said "that was a perfect indication for blood, you should tell whoever runs your blood program that you did a good job." We are blessed to have a Mayor and City Council who shares our vision of saving lives and being one of 3% of fire departments in the nation to carry prehospital blood!
