🚔 Slow Down. Save Lives.
Speeding is the #1 contributing factor in traffic crashes in Texas. Higher speeds reduce your reaction time, increase stopping distance, and make crashes more severe.

This week, the Childress County Sheriffs Office and the Childress Police Department are partnering with TxDOT to participate in Operation SlowDown, working to reduce speeding and keep our roads safe.

If you choose to speed, you could face costly fines, court fees, higher insurance rates and increased danger to yourself and others.

Remember: Slowdown in school zones. Reduce your speed for weather, traffic, and road conditions. A few seconds you save aren’t worth risking a life. Slow down. Drive smart. Arrive alive.

For those of us in Law Enforcement, today was a very hard day.

This day, June 17th, 2026, will be remembered for the rest of my life.
Trooper Sergio Romero was a true professional. A devoted husband, father to adorable children, the kind of son any parent would be proud of. A brother, both in blood and bond. We watched this young man grow up and pursue one of the noblest professions there is. Dedicating himself to a life of service to others and keeping our community safe.

Today, Trooper Romero was doing what many other Troopers and Deputies have been doing lately. Working hard to reduce traffic violations in the busiest part of our County. Many of us in this business have said time and time again, “someone’s going to get hurt or killed in that area”. Trooper Sergio wasn’t just talking about it. He was out there trying to prevent the very thing that took his life.

While the investigation is still ongoing and funeral arrangements have yet to be made, our resolve will remain steady. Our mission has not changed. Our dedication will not waiver. Rest easy brother, we will take it from here.

Wearing your seat belt can save you from serious injury.

It can also save you $200 in fines.

Officers across Texas, including Childress County Sheriff’s Office, will be stepping up enforcement of seat belt laws from May 18 through May 31.

Make sure to buckle up.

In honor of National Correctional Officer Week, we extend my deepest respect and appreciation to the men and women who serve in the field of corrections. We especially recognize the staff at the Childress County Jail and the TL Roach unit. Their role in the criminal justice system is absolutely critical to keeping our communities safe.

****Emergency Test Messages Incoming****

Today there will be a TEST of the alerting systems that we use to keep you informed. This is a State wide drill and will happen between 10am and 12:30.

Landline based emergency notification systems, wireless emergency alerting (WEA) and Integrated Public Warning systems (IPAWS) are tools we use to alert the public. Regular testing of public warning systems is critical to ensuring accurate and timely communication during disasters and emergencies.
