The Chili Fire Department kept busy across the town today responding to several incidents. We want to share these updates and provide a few safety reminders to help keep our neighbors safe.

• Trash Fire on Chili Avenue: Earlier today, crews responded to a trash fire located behind a gas station on Chili Avenue. Our teams acted quickly to contain the fire and prevent it from reaching the nearby building.
• Brush Fire and Arcing Power Lines: This afternoon, we were dispatched to a reported gas line explosion. Upon arrival, our officers determined that a high-voltage transmission line was arcing, which started a brush fire. We want to thank our neighbors from the Clifton and Scottsville Fire Departments for their assistance in helping us safely extinguish the fire through use of the UTVs.
• Electrical Safety Call: We also responded to a report of smoke in a building. The cause was a dehumidifier plugged into an extension cord, which led to charring. There was no fire spread to the structure, but it serves as a critical safety reminder.

Safety Tip:
Please plug high-power appliances like dehumidifiers, air conditioners, and space heaters directly into a wall outlet. Most extension cords are not designed to handle the heavy electrical load these devices require.

We are proud to serve the Town of Chili and appreciate the continued support of our community.

Tonight just after 9:00 PM, the Chili Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a vehicle off the road and sinking in water.

In emergency situations, every second counts. Our first unit arrived on the scene in under three minutes. Thanks to the rapid response and technical skills of our crews, the driver was successfully rescued within six minutes and suffered no injuries.

While we are often known for fighting fires, our members are highly trained in a wide range of emergency responses, including specialized water rescue. We are proud of our volunteers for their professionalism and for the high level of service they provide to the Town of Chili every day.

Big thanks to L3Harris Technologies for the Pi Day wishes! We hope everyone is enjoying a slice of something good today!

Tonight, your volunteers responded to a reported dryer fire. We are happy to report that upon arrival, our crews confirmed there was no active fire and no injuries.

While this call ended safely, it serves as an important reminder for our community. With the recent snow, many fire hydrants are buried or difficult to reach. In a real fire, every second counts. Finding and digging out a hydrant can take precious time.

How you can help us help you:
• Clear the Snow: Please shovel a 3 foot path around the fire hydrant near your home.
• Create a Path: Ensure there is a clear walkway from the hydrant to the street.
• Stay Vigilant: Clean out your dryer lint traps after every use to prevent fires before they start.
We take great pride in protecting the Town of Chili, but we work best when we work together. Thank you for helping us keep our neighbors safe.

Earlier today at 4:52 p.m., the Chili Fire Department was dispatched to 26 Kuebler Drive for a reported garage fire. First units arrived within four minutes to find heavy fire coming from the garage.

Due to the freezing temperatures, additional resources were called in to ensure the safety of our firefighters and the success of the operation. We are relieved to report that all occupants safely evacuated the home. One adult male was treated on scene by CHS Healthcare for minor burns.

Crews worked diligently to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes, preventing further spread into the main living areas. The garage sustained severe damage and the house suffered some fire damage along with smoke and water damage. One family has been displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau, though it does not appear suspicious at this time.

We would like to thank our mutual aid partners for their invaluable assistance on scene and providing coverage for our town:
