With a mission to provide easy movement of people and goods from place to place, the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for maintaining one of the largest transportation networks in the nation. pment. As a $2.8 billion enterprise, the department wisely invests in its core services of snow and ice removal, annual construction program and highway maintenance operations. Situated in south central Ohio, ODOT District 9 is comprised of Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties. District 9 is responsible for the maintenance of approximately 3,795 lane miles in its eight-county region. In addition, it maintains 1,157 bridges, including an Ohio River crossing at Portsmouth and one at Ironton. Further, District 9 is the only district in ODOT in which there are no interstate lane miles.

Ross County | Building A Better Bridge Street
Friday, August 21 at 8 p.m., crews will temporarily close the exit ramp from U.S. 35 east to Bridge Street and perform a rolling roadblock on eastbound U.S. 35 in order to remove and replace the overhead signs and truss at the top of the exit ramp. Motorists can detour using East Main Street. The ramp is expected to reopen early Saturday morning.

This week, crews were able to get more of the sidewalks poured at North Plaza Boulevard.

Guardrail has also been installed along the southern edge of the exit ramp from eastbound U.S. 35 to Bridge Street. Crews also installed new mast lighting at the interchange.

On August 5, ODOT crews in Summit County were picking up litter along the center median of I‑76 near SR 21, protected by a left‑lane closure. One driver failed to move over or slow down — slamming into the impact attenuator meant to shield our team. This has to STOP. When you see flashing lights: Move over. Slow down. Pay attention. Lives depend on it.

ROSS COUNTY | SR 180 UPDATE

SR 180 is now OPEN! Please note that temporary striping is in place and there are currently no edge lines.

When weather permits, permanent striping and raised pavement markings will be installed. This will require a temporary closure of the road to complete.

Ross County | Building A Better Bridge Street

Despite the soggy weather this week, crews did make a lot of progress.

Crews poured another section of the southbound lanes of Bridge Street at the end of the U.S. 35 eastbound exit and constructed the temporary ramp for northbound Bridge Street to U.S. 35 west. This ramp will be utilized while crews remove and replace the existing northbound lanes, and northbound traffic is using the future southbound lanes of Bridge Street through the interchange at U.S. 35. They also poured the sidewalk between U.S. 35 and Marietta Road and the curb and gutters south of U.S. 35.

Earthwork this week included removing the slope under the U.S. 35 overpass just east of Bridge Street. This will allow crews to replace a storm sewer under the bridge, build a retaining wall, and construct the shared-use path.

The project is working towards temporarily flipping northbound traffic to the new concrete pavement and allowing work to begin soon on the east side of the project area. Stay tuned for upcoming changes to the traffic patterns!
