🚴Not every electric bike is legally considered an e-bike in Wisconsin.
Before you ride, know the difference:
• Class 1 e-bike: Pedal assist only, up to 20 mph
• Class 2 e-bike: Throttle + pedal assist, up to 20 mph
• Class 3 e-bike: Pedal assist only, up to 28 mph, rider must be age 16 or older
In Wisconsin, Class 1, 2, and 3 e-bikes must have functional pedals and a motor rated at 750 watts or less.

Electric dirt bikes and other off-highway e-motos are different. They are not considered Class 1, 2, or 3 e-bikes under state law and are generally not allowed on bike lanes, sidewalks, trails, or public roads unless they meet separate legal requirements.

Ride smart and ride legal:
• Wear a helmet
• Use lights and reflective gear when riding at night
• Obey traffic laws and signals
• Yield to pedestrians
• Use bike lanes and paths where allowed
• Keep your e-bike in safe working condition

Please take a few minutes to learn what you’re riding before heading out. A safer community starts with informed riders.

Please give farm vehicles extra room on the roads. Do not pass them in No Passing Zones.

Agriculture is part of Wisconsin's past, present, and future, and spring is a busy time for farmers. Drivers, make sure to slow down and be respectful of farmers on our roads. Farmers, be aware of the lighting and marking requirement for farm vehicles. 🚜

Follow the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for more safety tips.

There’s not much time left in the school year, but school bus safety still matters every day.

Please remember:

Stop when a school bus has its red lights flashing
Stay alert for students getting on or off the bus

Failing to stop for a school bus with red lights on can result in a $767.50 penalty and 4 points on your driving record.

Let’s work together to keep students safe for the rest of the school year.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the families who carry their legacy forward each day.

As Abraham Lincoln wrote, they gave “the last full measure of devotion.”

Today, we reflect with gratitude and humility on the freedoms secured by those who never came home. Please join us in remembering and honoring our fallen heroes.

🚔 Click It or Ticket is underway in Calumet County! 🚔

The Calumet County Sheriff’s Office is joining law enforcement agencies across Wisconsin in the Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement mobilization.

Our deputies will be taking part in increased enforcement efforts to help keep drivers and passengers safe on our roads. Seat belts save lives, reduce serious injuries, and are one of the simplest ways to protect yourself and everyone in your vehicle.

Before you head out:
✅ Buckle up
✅ Make sure every passenger is buckled up
✅ Secure children in the proper car seat or booster

No matter how short the trip, every ride matters.

‼️Some cellphone carriers are currently experiencing service outages across a large area of Calumet County.

Important: This does not affect your ability to call 911 in an emergency.

We are aware that some residents are experiencing cellphone issues. Please DO NOT call 911 to report that your phone is not working. Doing so can tie up emergency lines and may delay help for someone with a real emergency.

Please use 911 only for emergencies.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation while the service issues are being addressed by the cellphone companies.
