Calumet County 4-H

Calumet County 4-H Calumet County 4-H is a program of the Calumet County University of Wisconsin-Extension. 4-H serves as a catalyst for positive community youth development.

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. 4-H is about having fun, learning, exploring and discovering. In 4-H, young people make new friends, develop new skills, become leaders and help shape their communities. The Wisconsin 4-H program was founded in 1914. Today about 50,000 Wisconsin youth are enrolled members of 4-H clubs in Wis

consin. Another 195,000 Wisconsin youth get involved in 4-H through special educational opportunities at school, in after school programs, or at neighborhood or youth centers. These youth live in cities, suburbs, small towns and rural communities.

4-H in Calumet County began as corn clubs in 1918 with the first 4-H community Club (Sherwood Wide Awake) being founded in 1931. Today we have sixteen 4-H Community Clubs, approximately 380 youth members, and about 150 adult volunteers. In addition to the community club program, Calumet County 4-H also offers youth leadership opportunities through community programs, school programs, and after school programs.

Hello 4-H Families and Members,

My name is Josie Mertens, and I am thrilled to return for my second summer serving as an AmeriCorps member with you. This role has provided me with incredible opportunities for personal and professional growth, and I look forward to continuing to learn, gain new experiences, and connect with our community. I am excited to see you all at our upcoming summer events and can't wait to create an amazing summer!

To share a bit about my background, I am currently attending UW-Platteville, majoring in Agricultural Education. I recently completed my freshman year and will be entering my sophomore year this fall. On campus, I am actively involved in the Agricultural Education Society and the Horticulture Club. Closer to home, I am a proud member of the Calumet Cliffhangers 4-H Club, marking my 13th year as a 4-H member. The leadership skills I have developed through 4-H have been invaluable, and I am eager to see where this path leads me both within the organization and in my future career.

I cannot wait to see what this summer holds and to experience all the wonderful opportunities ahead through AmeriCorps and 4-H.
Have a wonderful summer, and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Hi everyone! My name is Allison Peer, and this Summer I’m excited to be serving as an AmeriCorps member. I chose this opportunity because I knew it would push me outside of my comfort zone and challenge me in new ways. I’m really looking forward to developing my leadership skills and building meaningful relationships with youth and fellow volunteers throughout this experience.

I am currently a graduating senior at Chilton High School, and this fall I will be attending Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton to study landscape horticulture and greenhouse management. I’m also an active 4-H member with the Sunset Lake club, where I’ve had the chance to take on leadership roles and grow both personally and as a team member.

I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow along the way!
