🚫 BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT 🚫

Due to ongoing hazardous conditions, the burn ban is STILL ACTIVE until further notice.

🔥 NO OPEN BURNING WHATSOEVER 🔥
This includes (but is not limited to):

* Yard debris
* Trash
* Fire pits
* Campfires
* Agricultural burns

⚠️ STRICT ENFORCEMENT IN PLACE ⚠️
Any individual found in violation of the burn ban WILL BE CITED.

These measures are in place to protect lives, property, and emergency personnel during dangerous fire conditions.

Update: The fire has increased to 50 acres and is 60% contained. Expect smokey conditions along West C street and Enochville Rd!

We have been assisting Enochville Fire & Rescue and Kannapolis Fire and Police most of the afternoon with a large woods fire off of West C street. The fire grew to over 20 acres. Containment measures are in place and crews will monitor the fire for the next several days. Please remember we are in a BURN BAN!!!!!

Over the past 24hrs, Atwell has responded to several major incidents ranging from Working Fires to Pin-ins. Our members are dedicated to serving this area and we could not do it without the continued support from our Mutual Aid agencies and each member of our community.

4/8 9PM: Working Structure Fire, Unity Church Rd
4/9 5:30 AM: Large Brush Fire, Weaver Rd
4/9 2:30 PM: Traffic Accident Pin-in, 152 HWY
4/9 3:30 PM: Working Fire, Kimball Rd

*Please remember we are still under a burn ban

Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Effective Saturday, March 28 at 8 a.m., the National Weather Service has issued a ** 🚩🚩RED FLAG WARNING🚩🚩** for some North Carolina counties. For counties that aren’t under a red flag, fire danger is still critical. Review weather alerts for North Carolina at weather.gov.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will create dangerous fire behavior.

While open burning is permitted during a red flag, it is NOT advised. Please postpone ALL outdoor burning. If there was ever a time to show you can follow instructions the first time they are given, it’s now.

Atwell fire department along with South Iredell Fire-Rescue Odell Fire and Rescue and West Rowan VFD are currently operating at a large outside fire off of Wilkinson Rd. The fire has been contained and no injuries were reported. If you are in the area, please use caution while passing by!

*Winter Weather Threat*

Our area will recieve impacts from another winter storm this weekend. Forecast are calling for 4-7” in Rowan County. While we are all excited to play in the snow, please remember a few safety items regaurding travel and heating practices.

-Limit travel if it all possible
- If you MUST travel, leave earlier than normal so you can drive slowly
-Never sled near or on busy roadways
-Do not bring outdoor grills inside to heat the house
-Use caution if using gas heaters (CO detectors)
-Do not plug electric heaters in to extension cords
