This week, Mrs. Smith’s third graders have been reading a story that takes place in a courtroom with a trial and a jury! Avery Duhon was kind enough to share a nameplate, gavel, and judge’s robe that the real judges in her family used in real trials! Her grandfather is Judge Lane Walker and her great grandfather was Judge Ronald Walker. Avery even held a mock trial! She used that gavel for “Order in the court,” too! 2nd graders played the game Race to 100! This game helped us build “composing number” skills. The students were able to practice combining ten ones to compose a ten and then combining ten groups of ten to compose a 100. Math competition at its finest!

2nd grade learned about the observation of physical properties of matter. Students were able to use their five senses and science tools to observe and list all the physical properties of shaving cream
