CHINLE, AZ - Canyon de Chelly National Monument invites community members to attend the first of several informational and collaborative sessions for the Joint Management Plan at the Navajo Technical University (Chinle, AZ) on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

In 2016, the Navajo Nation (NN), National Park Service (NPS), Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), Chapter Houses, and the community completed a joint vision statement. A strategic agreement in 2018 and a joint management preliminary planning process in 2021 were also completed. This initial work identified the need for a Joint Management Plan.

With these sessions, the park respectfully seeks input on management considerations for Canyon de Chelly National Monument. This will build upon past engagement to better understand potential roles and responsibilities among the Navajo Nation, NPS, BIA, Chapter Houses, and local community. These sessions will also help to identify opportunities for shared stewardship of the park and its resources.

The National Park Service looks forward to hearing from the community. For more information, please contact Ravis Henry at 928-672-8225 or Lyn Carranza at 928-266-6641.
