Employee Recognition – John Rhames, Animal Control Officer II

Please join us in congratulating John Rhames, Animal Control Officer II, on successfully completing the Level I Venomous Handling Certification Course.

This intensive certification program consists of a rigorous combination of classroom instruction and hands-on practical training. The curriculum covers native venomous snake species, ecology, anatomy and physiology, reproductive behavior, venom toxinology, emergency snakebite management, and captive husbandry. Participants must also demonstrate proficiency in specialized field techniques, including single-hooking, double-hooking, safe bagging, and the secure containment of venomous snakes.

This certification requires dedication, technical knowledge, and a commitment to safety. By completing this advanced training, John has expanded his professional capabilities and enhanced Washington County's ability to safely and effectively respond to incidents involving venomous reptiles.

John has achieved a significant milestone as the first Animal Control Officer in Washington County to earn this certification. His initiative and commitment to professional development reflect positively on both the Washington County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Division and the citizens we serve.

🚧 Road Closure Notice 🚧

Washington County Public Works has announced the following bridge closures until further notice:

Hard Labor Bridge will be closed for major repairs.
Bethel Road Bridge over Gum Creek will be closed for bridge replacement.

Please plan alternate routes and use caution when traveling in these areas.

The countdown is on! We are officially 9 weeks away from the 8th Annual Washington County Sheriff's Office Rodeo, and we couldn't be more excited!

Mark your calendars for Friday and Saturday, September 18-19, and get ready for two action-packed nights of family fun, thrilling rodeo entertainment, and unforgettable memories.

There's nothing quite like rodeo weekend—the excitement of the crowd, the smell of delicious food, the sound of cheering fans, and some of the best rodeo action around. We invite everyone to come out and experience this incredible community tradition.

As we continue to monitor the current weather, now is the time to make sure your entire family—including your four-legged family members—is prepared. Take a moment to review these important pet preparedness tips from Washington County Animal Services.

⛈️ With the current weather approaching our area, now is the time to make sure your pets are included in your emergency plans.🐾

Emergencies can happen with little warning. Taking a few minutes today to prepare can help keep your pets safe if you need to leave home quickly.

Review the checklist in the graphic below and make sure you:
🐶 Have an evacuation plan that includes your pets.
🏷️ Ensure your pets have current ID tags and are microchipped.
🏨 Identify pet-friendly emergency shelters, hotels, or motels before you need them.
🎒 Pack a pet emergency kit with food, water, medications, carriers, leashes, and important records.
📋 Keep vaccination records, photos, and emergency contact information in a waterproof container.

Remember, if conditions become unsafe for you, they are unsafe for your pets too. Never leave them behind.

A little preparation today can make all the difference tomorrow.
