Non-Human Bones Identified in Chisholm Residence Investigation

The Chisholm Police Department is providing an update regarding the bones discovered in the basement of a residence in Chisholm last week.

With the assistance of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA), the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office, and a forensic anthropologist, the bones have been analyzed and determined to NOT be of human origin. This conclusion was reached after a detailed review by experts trained in the identification of bone material and remains.

We want to thank the Minnesota BCA once again for their continued support and expertise throughout this investigation. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the forensic anthropology team for their timely and thorough analysis.

Based on the items recovered during this incident and the completed analysis, there is no longer any reason to continue the investigation related to this particular matter.

Chisholm, Minn. — The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) is assisting the Chisholm Police Department with an active investigation following the discovery of possible human bones in the basement of a residence in Chisholm.

In order to thoroughly and safely process the scene, the BCA’s crime scene team was requested to assist our local investigators. Initial observations indicate the bones are NOT believed to be of human origin; however, they will be submitted for further analysis to confirm their origin.

The Chisholm Police Department takes every report and potential lead seriously. Any detail—no matter how small—has the potential to help resolve open investigations. As our community is painfully aware, the disappearance of LeeAnna Warner remains an open case that has deeply affected Chisholm for more than two decades. We want to reassure the Warner family, and our entire community, that we remain committed to following every credible lead with care, diligence, and compassion. Our hope is that continued efforts and cooperation will one day bring long-awaited answers and a measure of peace to those who have carried this loss for so long.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and its Crime Scene Team are currently assisting the Chisholm Police Department with an active investigation in our city. At this time, we are not able to release specific details in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigative process.

There is no threat to the public, and we ask that community members avoid the area so investigators can work efficiently.

The Chisholm Police Department received several reports earlier today regarding a male seen walking near 4th Ave SW and 2nd St SW, possibly wearing a mask and holding a handgun.

Officers have thoroughly investigated the reports and confirmed that the individual was NOT in possession of a firearm and was NOT wearing a mask. The individual has been identified, and there is no threat to the public at this time.

Mr. Schmidt has recently relocated to the vicinity of 9th Street Southwest and Iron Drive, in Chisholm.

Fatal Vehicle-Bicyclist Crash Under Investigation in Chisholm

Chisholm, MN – On 06/24/2025, at approximately 7:03 PM, the Chisholm Police Department responded to a report of a motor vehicle versus bicyclist crash at the intersection of Lake Street and 2nd Avenue in Chisholm.

Upon arrival, officers and emergency medical personnel located a 22-year-old male bicyclist who had sustained critical injuries. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by law enforcement and emergency responders. Despite those efforts, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the involved vehicle, a 42-year-old male from Chisholm, remained on scene and is cooperating fully with investigators. Preliminary findings indicate no signs of impairment were present at the time of the crash.

At this time, the names of those involved are being withheld pending full family notification and out of respect for the individuals and their loved ones.

This incident remains under investigation by the Chisholm Police Department with the assistance of the Minnesota State Patrol.

No further information will be released at this time.

UPDATE: Identities Released in Chisholm Shooting Incident

Chisholm, MN – The Chisholm Police Department is releasing the names of the individuals involved in the June 17th shooting incident.

The individuals who lost their lives in this tragic incident have been identified as Lindsey Kaye Adams, 30, of Chisholm, and Leo James Schweiss, 34, of Hibbing. The individual who was injured and is expected to recover is Ryder Presley Grove, 25, also of Hibbing.

This is a heartbreaking and deeply painful event. On behalf of the Chisholm Police Department, I want to extend my sincerest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of those involved. Both Lindsey and Leo had children, family, and friends who are now left grieving an unimaginable loss. This tragedy has touched our entire community.

While the investigation remains ongoing, tragically the preliminary information indicates this was most likely the result of an apparent murder-suicide. More details will be confirmed as autopsy results and evidence analysis are completed.

This tragic day reminds us all of the fragility of life and the importance of community. We stand with those who are grieving, and we will continue to support them as this investigation moves forward.

Chisholm, MN – Earlier today, law enforcement responded to a shooting incident in Chisholm, prompting a temporary shelter-in-place order for the surrounding area. That order has since been lifted, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety at this time.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) Crime Scene Unit is currently on-site, actively processing the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

All individuals connected to this incident have been identified and accounted for. Law enforcement is not seeking any additional persons related to this event.

Active Law Enforcement Incident in Chisholm – Public Advised to Shelter in Place

Chisholm, MN – Law enforcement is currently responding to an active incident in the area of 100 blk 5th Street NW and surrounding blocks in the City of Chisholm. The scene remains active, and residents in the immediate area are advised to shelter in place until further notice.

There is an ongoing law enforcement operation involving multiple agencies. While limited details can be released at this time due to the sensitive nature of the investigation, public safety is our highest priority. We ask residents to remain indoors, avoid the area, and follow any instructions given by law enforcement officers on scene.
