It lies along U.S. Routes 89 and 287 (the latter terminating at the former in this city) about 20 miles (32 km) east of the Rocky Mountains, near Flathead National Forest, the Rocky Mountain Division of Lewis and Clark National Forest, and Glacier National Park. The City of Choteau is also an Equal Opportunity Employer.

The city crew will be repairing 2nd St S from Highway 89 through 1st, 2nd and 3rd Ave all day tomorrow, August 18th, 2026. Please do not drive around the ROAD CLOSED signs or disrupt the progress of the dump truck, roller, loader or grader. It can be very hard for them to see you while they're working. Public Works will be shutting down the main at 1st St and 1st Ave, near the post office. They will be working to repair a leak. This will possibly affect the Post office, American Legion and nearby businesses. The fix should take about an hour. We apologize for any inconvenience.
